We were so excited to host our first Women's Basic Carpentry workshop of 2024 in our spiffy new timber framed teaching pavilion at the new campus on Paint Fork Road last Thursday through Sunday.

I was on hand for a chunk of Day 4 and got to capture some fun pictures of these amazing women as they worked on their final projects. Students choose to build either their own tool caddy, spice rack, or a birdhouse-- you can see some of these projects in the grou photo here.

I also got to sit in and type up notes on the feedback in our closing circle for the class, and gathered some sweet testimonials as students were getting ready to go home. It is so cool to hear how impactful this class is for women who have been longing to build these skills.

If you're considering taking a workshop with us but missed the New Year's enrollment window then know that we will be announcing some fall (and late summer) dates and opening those up in mid-May.

We give our waitlist folks first dibs on the spots when we open enrollment so now's a great time to get on the waitlist for the classes you might want to take! You can see our in-person offerings here:

Chad and Austin have been hard at work prepping the Timber Frame Teaching Pavilion for the upcoming classes-- we are building out workbenches and a loft area over the teaching space.

Now that our spring session of the 4 month hands-on carpentry program has begun Chad has been busy teaching the basics of tools 2 days a week, and the class will begin working on projects with his guidance when they are here.

If you're interested in our classes but would like a chance to dip your toe in before committing to a workshop, our upcoming work party weekend April 13-14th would be a great opportunity for you to check things out! You can come for one or both days, camp overnight if you like, and there will be a tour and learning as well as food and of course a bunch of working on projects at the campus with guidance and teamwork in groups.

🕙 Timing
Saturday: 10:30 start, lunch around 1:30 or 2pm, supper at 7pm, fire and hanging out until whenever (instruments and songs welcome!)

Sunday: 8:30 breakfast, lunch around 12:30pm, finish up around 4:30
If there is need, we plan to have childcare!

Work Party Projects we have planned:

🌲 Making tent sites & trails in the woods

⛺ Setting up canvas tents

🔨 Building an insulated sound barrier wall between outdoor classrooms

🌱 Prepping future garden space

🧰 Installing canvas roll-out awnings for sun/rain protection

💪 Lumber storage & organization

***There will also be important work to do tending children and helping in the kitchen.***

You can fill out the form at the link below to RSVP-- this will let us know how much food to plan for:

We hope to see you here!
