Safety goes beyond the job site.

At FWS, creating a safe workplace also means staying aware of the risks we encounter online. Through ongoing cyber awareness training, our employees continue building their knowledge of common cyber threats and how to recognize suspicious activity.

Itโ€™s another way weโ€™re keeping safety top of mind, whether weโ€™re on site, in the office, or online.

A memorable evening in Vancouver as FWS accepted Bronze Level Certification through the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) program at the Indigenous Relations Forum & PAIR Awards. The event brought together Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations to celebrate partnerships, collaboration, and advancement in Indigenous relations.

We are proud of this milestone and grateful to the communities, partners, and team members who helped make it possible. While we celebrate this achievement, we also recognize that meaningful relationship-building is a continuous journey.

Thank you to the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business for this recognition and for creating opportunities to learn, connect, and grow together.

PROJECT UPDATE:
Progress continues on a major facility expansion, with the new structural building taking shape and key equipment installations moving forward. Recent milestones include new conveyor and elevator components, completed concrete work, and the installation of a large cyclone system. Work is also underway on connecting walkways, support structures, and dust collection equipment.

With several major components now in place, the team is focused on preparing for the next phase of work during the upcoming shutdown period.

A Lean construction process is not a checklist at the end of a project. It is the structure the project runs on, from planning through ex*****on. Sequence the work. Eliminate the waiting. Align the trades. Protect the schedule by respecting every hand-off. That is how a facility arrives on time and performs on day one.

Industry Insight: Cold Weather Doesn't Have to Stop Concrete Placement

As temperatures drop, concrete placement becomes increasingly dependent on planning, monitoring, and protection strategies.

Cold weather can affect concrete curing, strength development, and overall quality if conditions aren't properly managed. That's why successful winter concrete placement requires careful coordination, temperature monitoring, and measures to protect concrete during the curing process.

From insulated blankets and wind breaks to heating and hoarding systems, the right approach helps maintain quality, manage risk, and keep projects moving through colder months.

At FWS, we recognize that successful cold weather concrete placement is the result of preparation, process, and attention to detail long before the first truck arrives on site.

"Reconciliation isn't just about understanding our history. It's about choosing, every day, to live like we belong to each other." โ€“ Chief Dr. Robert Joseph

On September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the ongoing impacts of the residential school system.

As Chief Dr. Robert Joseph reminds us, reconciliation is more than understanding our shared history. It is a commitment to listening, learning, building relationships, and taking meaningful action every day.

This year, employees across our offices will come together to participate in events that encourage reflection, education, and dialogue, including walks, cultural teachings, and community gatherings.

We encourage everyone to take time to learn, reflect, and consider the role we each play in advancing reconciliation.

Employee Spotlight: Kyle Musngi

Meet Kyle Musngi, a dedicated team member who is passionate about learning, collaboration, and continuous growth.

One of Kyle's most memorable projects was the RIL Unity Project, where he worked alongside experienced tradespeople who shared valuable knowledge and practical skills. The experience helped him broaden his trade expertise and grow professionally.

Kyle believes success starts with a willingness to learn.

"Always be willing to take on new tasks. Even if you're not completely sure what to do, ask questions and give it a try. That's the best way to learn and develop your skills."

Known for his positive attitude and collaborative approach, Kyle values planning, problem-solving, and hearing different perspectives when tackling challenges. Outside of work, you'll often find him connecting with Winnipeg's automotive community through local car meets and Sunday night cruises.

We're proud to have Kyle on the FWS team and look forward to seeing his continued growth in the trades.
