Congratulations to artist Sean McLachlan on the launch of Spilled Type, a letterpress type inspired Tyndall Stone sculpture that sits beside the former T. Eaton Printing Plant on Waterfront Drive. The sculpture pays homage to the historic warehouse that produced the Eaton’s Catalog for Western Canada from 1926 to 1969.

Public art plays a vital role in shaping urban spaces, fostering connection, conversation, and sense of place. Landscape architects help frame and implement these creative experiences, collaborating closely with artists and interdisciplinary teams to bring the artist’s vision to life.

Swipe for a fun behind the scenes look at installing the 1200 lb Tyndall Stone blocks!

Green infrastructure uses natural systems to tackle flooding, excess heat, and air pollution—while delivering powerful co‑benefits like cleaner water, wildlife habitat, and enhanced aesthetics.

At HTFC Planning & Design, this work happens across all scales—from rain gardens and adaptive planting strategies to citywide green corridors, green space master plans, and climate adaptation planning—partnering with communities to build climate‑responsive, resilient places. Through research work and pilot projects across Manitoba, we’re helping advance greener solutions for a changing climate.

🌾💧 Big things are happening on the Canadian Prairies!

Our office is working for with Associated Engineering, and Green Analytics to create three practical implementation guides focused on:

🔵 Flood mitigation

🟠 Drought mitigation & water supply

🟢 Water quality

Nature-based solutions work, whether at the community scale, in agricultural landscapes, or throughout entire watersheds. The evidence is clear. But they’re still not being used as much as they could be.

Now we’re building a roadmap with six key pillars to help accelerate and expand natural infrastructure across the Canadian Prairies, and we want your input!

📝 Take the survey (link in the bio) and help shape the future of resilient water systems. The survey will be live until March 31, 2026.
