For a lot of our clients who reached out yesterday and this morning, sounds like the storm hit your homes pretty hard. ☹️ We are fully booked today and have a couple spots left for tomorrow. We will try our best to get to everyone who reached out.

👨🏻‍🔧With the sewer back ups, unfortunately you do have to let it subside, especially if you had no slow draining fixtures, or main line issues before the storm. If for whatever reason it’s still backed up after everything has subsided, don’t hesitate to reach out.

👨🏻‍🔧Be sure to check your sump pumps, as it was probably working overtime. Or happen to fail during the overload of water it was dealing with.

History lesson for Homeowners 🤓

Building traps (also known as house traps, main sewer traps, or sanitary traps) were a standard, required plumbing feature in Manitoba homes built before the 1950s. These traps were designed to prevent sewer gases from backing up into the house from the main municipal sewer line.

Before the 1950s, it was common practice to install a U-shaped pipe (a large P-trap or U-bend) on the main sewer drain just before it exited the house.

Modern codes no longer allow these old-style building traps and require that every fixture have its own P-trap instead.

Plumbers now recommend removing these older traps and replacing them with a straight pipe. 🙂
