140 feet of pure backyard transformation in Sage Creek 😎

This 6x6 Deluxe fence just went in and honestly, it speaks for itself.

The homeowner went with a 5 foot post depth instead of the standard 4 foot.

That’s the kind of decision that separates a fence that lasts a few years from one that lasts decades. Especially with Manitoba winters 😅

Now the yard is ready for whatever comes next a deck, some landscaping, and finally enjoying the backyard all summer long 🙌

The homeowner is over the moon. We couldn’t be happier ourselves.

This is what A+ Fences is all about.

Everything you need to know about fence rules in Winnipeg 👇

Do I need a permit?
Nope. No permit required for a fence in Winnipeg.

How tall can my fence be?
Your backyard fence can go up to 6.5 feet tall.
Anything past the front of your home? That's capped at 4 feet.

Does the good side have to face my neighbour?
It depends what you consider the good or bad side 😅
The only real restriction in Winnipeg is if you have a pool, the framing has to face the inside of your yard.

Do I need to call before I dig?
If you're hiring A+ Fences, no. We take care of that for you.

If you're doing it yourself, yes. You'll need to use Click Before You Dig.

Winter is tough on fences in Winnipeg.

Here are 3 signs yours didn’t make it through 😬

1. Leaning or loose posts

Walk your fence line and give the posts a shake.

A lot of snow piles up against a fence over a Manitoba winter and that weight, combined with freeze-thaw cycles, can shift posts that were already starting to go.

2. Rotting wood

Your fence just spent months buried under snow.

Now’s the time to check your boards, your trim, and your posts for any signs of deterioration.

Soft spots, discolouration, and crumbling wood are all red flags.

3. Your gate isn’t working.

Once the snow is fully melted, test your gate. Is it opening and closing properly?

A gate that drags, sticks, or won’t latch is one of the most common post-winter problems we see across Winnipeg.

If you’re nodding at any of these 😅 give us a call.

We’d be happy to come take a look and let you know exactly what you’re dealing with. 🙌

3 reasons Winnipeg homeowners love chain link fences 👇

1. Low maintenance

No replacing boards. No staining. No repairs after a brutal Manitoba winter. You put it up once and forget about it.

2. Most cost effective

When you’re comparing wood, vinyl, and chain link side by side, chain link wins on price every time. Same security, less investment.

3. It lasts

Steel doesn’t warp. Steel doesn’t rot. Steel doesn’t need to be repainted. A properly installed chain link fence can last 40+ years in Winnipeg’s climate.

If you want a fence that works hard, costs less, and never asks for much in return, chain link might be exactly what your yard needs 😎

If your fence looks like this… we need to talk 😬

You’ve been looking at it for a few years now.

Maybe you told yourself you’d brace it. Maybe next season.

But a leaning fence isn’t protecting your home anymore. It’s just standing there.

The whole point of a fence is to keep things safe, your yard, your kids, your dogs, your privacy.

The second it stops doing that, it’s just rotting wood taking up space.

It’s time to stop looking at it and start doing something about it.

Let’s build something that actually protects your home.

It’s time to surround yourself with quality 😎

Your wood fence should last 20 to 30 years. Here’s why most don’t 👇

The difference between a fence that lasts and one that starts rotting in 5 years comes down to one thing: the post.

If your posts aren’t installed to the proper depth, and sealed correctly for Manitoba winters, you’re not getting the full lifespan. Simple as that.

What goes wrong:
👉 Posts set too shallow
👉 No proper sealing against freeze-thaw cycles
👉 The foundation softens, the fence starts to lean, and eventually… it’s a full replacement

At A+ Fences, every post is set and sealed the right way the first time. Because a fence that doesn’t last isn’t a fence worth building. 🙌

Should you repair or replace your fence? Here’s how to tell the difference 👇

Not every fence problem means starting from scratch but some do.

Repair it if:
✅ One post is leaning but the rest is solid
✅ Your gate drags and won’t close properly
✅ A few boards are cracked but the posts are still good
✅ The stain has worn off and the wood looks grey — a sand and stain brings it right back

Replace it if:
❌ Your posts are soft and rotting — the foundation is gone
❌ The entire fence line is leaning
❌ A windstorm knocked over multiple panels and broke posts at the ground
❌ Your fence is 20 years old and shakes in the wind — a fence should not shake

The difference comes down to one thing: foundation.

If the posts are compromised, no amount of bracing is going to save it.

When does fence season start in Winnipeg?

Every year, we aim to kick off our season the first week of May.

But with Winnipeg winters… It’s always weather dependent 😅 we hope the snow is gone TOMORROW!

Even when snow looks melted, we still have frost that goes down deep and we’re not cutting corners.

Before we dig a single post hole, we make sure the ground is completely thawed out.

That’s how we set posts that actually last.
So if you’re thinking about a new fence this year, now is the time to get on the schedule!

Not all wood gates are built for the same job…

The right gate comes down to how you use your yard.

Just want easy, everyday backyard access?

✅ A standard gate gets it done clean and simple.

Need wide access for vehicles or a back lane?

✅ A sliding gate makes sense.

Moving equipment or parking inside the yard?

✅ A double swing opens things right up.

When gates are framed properly, reinforced, and built for Winnipeg weather, they don’t just look good… they last.

Not sure which gate to install?

Send us a message and we’ll help you choose the right setup for your yard 😎
