This Sage Creek homeowner just got a serious upgrade 👌

We built 175 feet of our deluxe build fence on solid 6x6 posts, set a full 5 feet deep with a detailed post top. A fence is only as stable as what’s holding it up, and our Winnipeg winters don’t go easy on anything.

The gates are where the real craft shows.

Every one gets a box frame with cross bracing, three hinges, and a heavy-duty latch. We also install them with a header up top so they won’t sag over time a must for the way our winters push and pull on everything.

Oh, and the neighbours? We did their fence too 😎

Privacy, security, and aesthetics all in one, this is the fence you want.

You won’t see a fence like this anywhere else 🔥

This home owner in Elmwood wanted a fence that added security without blocking the view of the street from her house.

So we got creative.

We built a 4x4 standard fence and finished it with a custom 2-foot topper, but instead of the usual lattice, we went with a sleek black insert she can still see straight through.

Then we carried that same custom look onto the gate.

The insert is thick rod iron steel from Nuvo Iron they have some of the best gate inserts out there and it accents the whole fence perfectly.

The result? A Winnipeg custom fence that’s secure, see-through, and honestly turned out even cleaner than we pictured 😎

Do you hate the gaps in between your fence boards?

Here’s why this is happening and how we fix it 👇

It’s usually not bad lumber. It’s just wood doing what wood does: as the boards dry out over time, they shrink, and those little gaps start opening up.

Here in Winnipeg, with our dry winters and big seasonal swings, wood moves even more than usual.

Our solution is a style we call privacy plus boarding.

It’s a board-on-board build, so the boards overlap instead of sitting side by side. Even as the lumber dries and shifts, there are no gaps — just solid, full coverage from one end to the other.

It’s perfect if you’ve got dogs, if you want real privacy, or if you just love the clean, finished look it gives a yard 🐶

If your fence runs along a public sidewalk, there’s a winter problem most Winnipeg homeowners never see coming 👀

Every time the plows come through, all that snow gets pushed off the sidewalk and packed right up against your fence.

Do that all winter long, year after year, and the constant pressure slowly pushes your posts over. Before you know it, the whole fence is leaning.

Here’s how we get ahead of it at A+ Fences — we go with 6x6 posts.

They’re heavier, sturdier, and built to take the weight a Winnipeg winter throws at them, so your fence stays straight for the long haul 👍

Over 1,000 feet of fence in May. Not a bad way to kick off the season 👌

May is always the real start of fence season here in Winnipeg, and this year was no different.

That first week threw some weather at us, cold mornings, wet ground, the usual Manitoba spring stuff. But the crew didn’t blink.

By the end of the month we’d built over 1,000 feet of fence across the city, and every single one turned out beautiful. Couldn’t be prouder of this team 🙌

If you’ve been thinking about a new fence this year, now’s the time to lock it in. Message us to book your spot before the season fills up. 😎

215 feet of privacy plus fence and we went all out on the gates in Wildwood 🔥

Standard build privacy plus fence from end to end.

Two pedestrian gates, one double swing gate, and a 12 foot wide sliding gate to finish it off.

That’s a full home transformation, and every inch of it built the A+ way.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a sliding gate or privacy plus board style, this one shows exactly what’s possible 😎

140 feet of pure backyard transformation in Sage Creek 😎

This 6x6 Deluxe fence just went in and honestly, it speaks for itself.

The homeowner went with a 5 foot post depth instead of the standard 4 foot.

That’s the kind of decision that separates a fence that lasts a few years from one that lasts decades. Especially with Manitoba winters 😅

Now the yard is ready for whatever comes next a deck, some landscaping, and finally enjoying the backyard all summer long 🙌

The homeowner is over the moon. We couldn’t be happier ourselves.

This is what A+ Fences is all about.

Everything you need to know about fence rules in Winnipeg 👇

Do I need a permit?
Nope. No permit required for a fence in Winnipeg.

How tall can my fence be?
Your backyard fence can go up to 6.5 feet tall.
Anything past the front of your home? That's capped at 4 feet.

Does the good side have to face my neighbour?
It depends what you consider the good or bad side 😅
The only real restriction in Winnipeg is if you have a pool, the framing has to face the inside of your yard.

Do I need to call before I dig?
If you're hiring A+ Fences, no. We take care of that for you.

If you're doing it yourself, yes. You'll need to use Click Before You Dig.

Winter is tough on fences in Winnipeg.

Here are 3 signs yours didn’t make it through 😬

1. Leaning or loose posts

Walk your fence line and give the posts a shake.

A lot of snow piles up against a fence over a Manitoba winter and that weight, combined with freeze-thaw cycles, can shift posts that were already starting to go.

2. Rotting wood

Your fence just spent months buried under snow.

Now’s the time to check your boards, your trim, and your posts for any signs of deterioration.

Soft spots, discolouration, and crumbling wood are all red flags.

3. Your gate isn’t working.

Once the snow is fully melted, test your gate. Is it opening and closing properly?

A gate that drags, sticks, or won’t latch is one of the most common post-winter problems we see across Winnipeg.

If you’re nodding at any of these 😅 give us a call.

We’d be happy to come take a look and let you know exactly what you’re dealing with. 🙌

3 reasons Winnipeg homeowners love chain link fences 👇

1. Low maintenance

No replacing boards. No staining. No repairs after a brutal Manitoba winter. You put it up once and forget about it.

2. Most cost effective

When you’re comparing wood, vinyl, and chain link side by side, chain link wins on price every time. Same security, less investment.

3. It lasts

Steel doesn’t warp. Steel doesn’t rot. Steel doesn’t need to be repainted. A properly installed chain link fence can last 40+ years in Winnipeg’s climate.

If you want a fence that works hard, costs less, and never asks for much in return, chain link might be exactly what your yard needs 😎
