Roof work starts well before anyone reaches the roof.

At this project, the access system had to be in place before the roofing crews arrived and ready to work with the building conditions already on site.

That means looking beyond height alone. Crew movement, material access, tie locations and the work happening around the scaffold all influence how the system needs to come together.

Have an upcoming project where access needs to be coordinated before other trades mobilize? Get PACK involved early.

Access planning should happen before the trades arrive, not after someone realizes the work area cannot be reached safely.

Commercial renovations often involve several teams using the same elevation at different stages. Inspectors, installers, envelope crews and maintenance contractors may all need different access points or platform levels.

Planning those requirements together reduces mid-project changes and makes the schedule easier to manage.

The scaffold should follow the work sequence, not force the work sequence to adapt around it.

The smallest scaffold layout is not always the most efficient one.

A limited system may need repeated changes as different trades move through the project. It may also come down before inspections, corrections or final documentation are complete.

A stronger plan considers the entire work sequence before installation begins.

That does not mean building more than the project needs. It means building the right access for the work that is actually scheduled.

Emergency access loses time long before the first scaffold component reaches the site.

The contractor may still need approval. The property team may not know who can authorize the work. Site requirements, hazards and staging areas may still be unclear.

Those questions are easier to settle before storm damage, an urgent repair or an inspection issue forces the building team to move quickly.

Emergency scaffolding planning does not mean ordering equipment in advance. It means removing predictable delays before they become expensive.

A scaffold can fit the elevation perfectly and still create daily problems for the property below it.

Loading areas, entrances, vehicle movement and emergency routes need to be reviewed before the layout is finalized.

For occupied commercial buildings, access planning should start with how the property operates, not only where the roofing crew needs to work.

Our latest guide explains what roofing contractors, general contractors and property teams should map before installation begins.

A tarp may cover the work. That does not mean it is protecting the schedule. 👀

On an active job site, temporary weather protection has a bigger job than simply keeping an area covered.

Exposure can affect materials, interrupt active work and create conditions that lead to rework. Proper shrink wrap containment is designed around maintaining a more controlled work environment when conditions turn.

There is more to the cost comparison than the material price:

Compare tarps vs shrink wrap for Alberta jobsites and learn when maintenance, weather exposure and project disruption can change the true cost.

Roof work should not force the entire building to work around the scaffold.

A blocked entrance, crowded loading lane or poorly timed dismantle can turn a roofing project into an operational problem. 🏢

The right roof scaffolding plan accounts for workers, tenants, deliveries, emergency access and inspections before installation begins.

The worst time to search for a scaffolding partner is after the shutdown has already started.

By then, crews may be idle, inspections may be delayed and rushed decisions can create even more risk. A prequalified emergency scaffolding partner can remove predictable delays before they affect the schedule. ⏱️

General contractors are responsible for keeping projects moving, coordinating multiple trades and managing tight timelines.

The right scaffolding partner helps support those goals through reliable scheduling, clear communication and access solutions that work with the project rather than against it.

When access is planned properly, crews can focus on the work in front of them instead of working around avoidable obstacles.

When shutdown schedules are measured in days, every hour matters.

Access planning plays a major role in keeping maintenance work organized, safe and efficient throughout a shutdown project.

The right scaffolding strategy helps crews access critical areas, supports coordination across trades and reduces disruptions during high pressure maintenance windows.
