I can't get enough of these cute little faces. Majority are self seeded and cross pollinated to get these fun new mixes. I'm saving seeds but who knows what colour combo they will be. It's a fun mystery!

ONIONS!

This year has been an odd one. Failed peppers. Failed tomatoes. But oh WOW did my onions and garlic do amazing! Huge bulbs! I'm so excited. The change I did this year for the onions was starting the sets early in a seed snail. Will do that again next year for sure.

This is the first year my orchard produced cherries and I couldn't be more excited. I think I have 4 different varieties of cherries and you can see the variety of ripe colours in my bowl (second pic). Now to decide what to so with them!

Now is the time to talk seed saving!
While the blooms are best or the best tasting beans are ripening mark them with tape, ribbon, or whatever you can to show which ones are the ones worth growing next year. Resist eating or harvesting them in order to save their seeds so you can eat (or look at them) for years to come.

Queen of the Prairie.
Every year I'm so ecstatic when she blooms. This flower is at the top of a 5ft tall stalk. She's huge. She's spreading. And I love it.

Garlic scape time!

What is a garlic scape? It's the flower bud and stem of hardneck garlic
You can snap the stem by hand, pull it out gently, or cut it at the base of the scape (not at the base of the whole garlic!) when it does a full loop as pictured above.
And so many options for use: scape powder, salt, or eat cooked. Which will you try?

It's Haskap time!
But don't be fooled by the colour, just because they are blue doesn't mean they are ripe! They are perfectly ripe when they are almost falling off the bush and purple on the inside. They'll be much sweeter if you wait for them to ripen.
One harvesting method, place a tarp underneath and give the bush a shake. The ripe ones should fall off onto the tarp.

What are you doing with your haskaps?
