This evening we went before a Municipal Appeal board to request our Stop Order be extended into November while we work to find places for all our residents. They will give us an answer within 2 weeks.
Most of our residents have found insecure places. We are working toward a positive outcome for all of them, but anticipate some challenges. We will provide a short term “landlord link” to advocate with landlords and assist residents to retain their rentals.

Today was the last day for all our support staff…. 😔

We have the transportation figured out for moving this weekend.Thanks!
However, we could sure use plastic bins or solid packing boxes. You can just drop them off at Eagle’s Nest front doors, and we’ll find them 📦

Does anyone have a truck and driver to pull a small trailer (we will have it loaded) to Swan Hills on Thursday and/or Friday. We are moving furniture and boxes for some residents who are moving there.

It’s fantastic what other communities like Edson and Drayton Valley are accomplishing! …. While Whitecourt has NO plan for affordable or supportive housing and effectively shuts down the only option available… rather than collaborating on a solution.

After a feasibility study years in the making, plans are moving forward for 32 to 40 transitional and supportive housing units right here in Edson, with rent capped at 30 percent of income. This is what hope looks like when a community decides to build a solution instead of waiting for one. Follow our progress

SESS has received a Stop Order for September 30. Our Residents need to find rentals within 4 weeks. They all live well below the poverty line, and do not have an opportunity to save for the expenses of a move. Please consider a donation to help 24 folks find and pay for new homes!

SESS Statistics:

SESS housed 110 individuals these past 5 years. Our impact data is very good in the homeless sector:
• 90% of residents are from our local community area.
• 33% are indigenous.
* Housing programs are part of reconciliation.
• 26% are seniors.

• Most live at SESS 1-2 years.
• 6 lived at SESS twice.
• 6 have lived at SESS for more than 4 years.

• 43% transitioned successfully out of SESS
16% moved in with family
6% moved into other programs/institutions
21% moved into market housing

• 22% are still housed at SESS

• 22% experienced program eviction
18% returned to homelessness (Living in motels, shelters, couch surfing or outdoors)

• 12% are deceased or post residency is unknown

* 84% have brain injury, cognitive disabilities, or mental illness
* 21% had/have active addictions
* 39% have past addiction effects
