The panels click together nicely. Getting them around the deck takes a little more work.

I’m notching a Trusscore PVC panel around the pressure-treated deck leading into the house.

You’re getting my view through the Meta glasses, from marking it out on the cutting table, to making the cuts with the Metabo HPT Canada rear-handle saw, to fitting the panel into place.

The snap-in J-trim goes on once the panels are finished. Still more to do, but the room is coming together one piece at a time.

Three separate pours. Two different finishes. One heated driveway coming together. 👊

Early start, line pump ready, and concrete on the way.

Andreas StratosFied Concrete takes care of placing, grading, floating, and finishing the concrete. The centre sidewalk gets a clean broom finish with edged borders, while the carport and driveway sections get a hand swirl finish.

I didn’t catch the last two pours on camera, but we’re back for a look at the finished concrete, the line drain, and a quick update on the boiler installation for the snow melt system.

After all the excavation and prep, this is the payoff.

We’re one step closer to pouring this heated concrete driveway.

In this episode, we’re installing our Reln Drainage trench drain to manage surface water and snowmelt runoff, followed by the SuperForm SuperPEX panels that will support our hydronic heating system.

Once the panels are down, we’re installing our 3/4-inch hydronic tubing, pressure testing the system, and completing more of the formwork ahead of the concrete pour.

Shout out to Steve @ Next for getting that hydronic tubing out to us asap!

There’s a lot that goes into a heated driveway before you ever see a concrete truck show up.

Next up: concrete pour day.

BUILDING A HEATED DRIVEWAY — PART 1: THE WORK YOU DON’T SEE!

Before we can start installing our hydronic heating system or pouring beautiful concrete, we need to make sure everything underneath it is built properly.

And this excavation gave us a few surprises!

We started by removing the existing asphalt and concrete, then excavating the entire driveway to our required depths.

Unfortunately, once we started digging, we discovered several areas around the house where the ground was extremely soft and unsuitable for supporting our new driveway.

That meant digging considerably deeper than originally planned and rebuilding those areas properly.

Here’s how we tackled it:

* Removed the existing asphalt, concrete, and unsuitable material.
* Over-excavated the soft areas until we reached suitable bearing material.
* Rebuilt those areas using 3” clear stone, compacting in approximately 6-inch lifts with our jumping jack.
* Installed woven geotextile to provide separation and reinforcement within our driveway assembly.
* Continued building up our granular base with ¾” crush stone, compacting in 6-inch lifts using our .neuson diesel plate compactor.

By the end of this video, we’ve established our first layer across the project and are getting ready to install our trench drainage system.

It’s easy to admire a beautiful finished concrete driveway, but the real work starts long before the concrete trucks arrive.

You only get one chance to build a proper foundation beneath your driveway.

And when you’re investing in a hydronic heated driveway, cutting corners on the preparation simply isn’t an option.

POUR DAY! Bringing our custom ICF pool to life, one step at a time.

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at us pouring concrete into the stairs and built-in bench of our indoor Superform Products Ltd. ICF pool project.

I’m running the concrete vi****or as we place the concrete, making sure it’s properly consolidated throughout the forms and around the reinforcement.

Proper vibration is an important part of concrete placement. It helps eliminate trapped air, reduces the risk of honeycombing, and ensures the concrete fills the forms properly.

Meanwhile, Andreas StratosFied Concrete is right behind us, working the concrete and finishing the stairs and bench as we go.

There’s a lot happening during a pour like this, and everyone needs to work together to keep things moving smoothly.

This is about three minutes of real jobsite footage. No fancy editing, just a look at the process and the work that goes into building a custom concrete pool.

Good preparation, proper concrete placement, and experienced tradespeople make all the difference.

Winter is just around the corner, and I’m already looking forward to getting back on the snowboard!

Throwback to the tail end of last season at Dagmar Ski Resort Ski Resort, when the snow was melting, the hills were washing out, and everyone was having a blast pond skimming!

Colton and I were out there seeing if we could make it across the water on our snowboards.

Someone happened to catch this run on video, and after I made it across, you can hear him yell, “OH, IT’S DAD POWER!”

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

These are the moments I look forward to every winter. Getting outside, having some fun, and making memories with my son.

Summer is great, but there’s something about winter that I absolutely love.

THROWBACK to when Colton was younger and almost gave me a heart attack!

There I was, being a proud dad, filming myself talking about how great of a job Colton was doing operating my skid steer.

Everything was going perfectly…

Until I turned around.

HE WAS HEADING STRAIGHT FOR MY WORK TRAILER!

I went from proud dad to full-blown panic mode in about half a second!

Let’s just say the words that came out of my mouth weren’t exactly family-friendly. Good thing I remembered to bleep them all out!

Looking back at these old videos always gives me a good laugh. These are the father-and-son memories you never forget.

Any other dads go from proud parent to complete panic in record time?

Sometimes you have to take things apart to finish them properly!

Back in the trailer, putting the sheet metal brake to work!

We’re bending custom aluminum capping for the garage door openings in our indoor ICF pool project.

These openings were never properly capped, so we’re going back to finish the details before installing the rest of our Trusscore wall panels.

But there’s a catch… 👀

To get everything capped cleanly, we’ll need to partially disassemble the garage door assemblies, install our custom-bent aluminum over the exposed wood, and then put everything back together.

This will give us a clean, finished transition where our Trusscore panels meet the garage door openings.

And in a high-humidity environment like an indoor pool room, paying attention to exposed materials and finishing details is especially important.

It’s the little details that separate a finished job from a properly finished job. 👊

A HEATED DRIVEWAY IS ONLY AS GOOD AS ITS DRAINAGE! 💧🔥

On this custom build, we’re incorporating an 8-inch Reln Drainage trench drain into our sloped, heated concrete driveway!

When you’re dealing with a driveway on a significant slope, controlling surface water is a major part of the design.

Heavy rainfall, melting snow, and changing Canadian seasons all mean one thing… WATER NEEDS SOMEWHERE TO GO!

That’s why we’ve incorporated this RELN drainage system to capture surface runoff as it travels down the driveway and direct it into our drainage system.

Combined with our heated driveway, this setup is designed to help manage snowmelt and surface water throughout the winter months.

But it’s not just about functionality!

Wait until you see that final pan of the freshly poured concrete! 🔥

Everything is starting to come together beautifully, and the finished driveway is looking incredible.

Proper planning. Quality products. Clean ex*****on.

Because the details you don’t always notice are just as important as the ones you do! 👊

MOIST. There, I said it. 😂💦

Apparently, there’s an entire population of people who absolutely HATE that word.

Meanwhile, I’m over here installing Trusscore in an indoor pool room, and there’s really no better way to describe the environment.

It’s humid. It’s damp. It’s… MOIST. 🤣

Seriously though, what’s wrong with the word?!

At least we’re installing moisture-resistant PVC panels designed for environments like this.
