A flooded basement doesn’t always start inside your home.

In older neighbourhoods, the city’s sewer system can back up during heavy rain - and without the right protection, that water has nowhere to go but into your basement.

It’s one of those risks most homeowners don’t know about until they’re dealing with the damage. We just finished installing a backwater valve here in Oshawa. In this video, our tech Matt explains what it does, how it works, and why it matters - especially if your home is in an older part of town where the infrastructure is aging and the risk is higher.

A couple of things worth knowing:
A backwater valve is a one-way gate installed on your main sewer line. When the city’s system backs up, it closes automatically - blocking sewage from entering your home.
It also affects your home insurance. Many insurers offer reduced premiums or expanded coverage when a backwater valve is properly installed. That’s worth a conversation with your provider.

If you’re not sure whether your home has one - or whether you need one - that’s a straightforward question we can help you answer.

No pressure. Just clarity.

Most homeowners don’t think about their sump pump - until it’s too late.

In this video, one of our techs walks through exactly how a backup sump pump system works.
He unplugs the main pump, lets the pit fill, and shows what happens next - a beeping alarm, a flashing red light, and a backup system that kicks in automatically to protect your home.

Here’s the part most people don’t know about: it also sends an alert directly to your phone.
So whether you’re at work, away for the weekend, or at the cottage, you’ll know the moment something’s wrong - before it becomes a real problem. No warning. No alarm. No backup. That’s the situation a lot of homes are in right now, heading into spring.

If you’re unsure what kind of system you have - or if it’s been a while since anyone looked at it - that’s worth knowing before the water table rises.

Drop a question below, or send us a message.
We’re happy to help you figure out where you stand.

This is what happens when it’s not done right the first time.

A small detail - like a poorly installed toilet fl**ge - can lead to leaks, movement, and bigger problems down the road.

In this home, the original installation wasn’t secured properly. So instead of a quick fix, it turned into a full reset to make sure everything was sealed, level, and built to last.

In this video, our technician walks through how to properly set and fasten a toilet fl**ge - the right way.

Because in plumbing, shortcuts don’t save money…
they usually cost more later.

Doing it right the first time means no callbacks, no hidden damage, and no second guessing.

If something in your home doesn’t feel right, or you’re planning an installation and want it done properly, it’s worth having a professional take a look.

No stress. No surprises. Just professional plumbing.

If your water pressure is low… this might be why.

This is a galvanized water line - commonly used in older homes, and something we still see all the time.

Over the years, these pipes corrode from the inside.
What starts as a small buildup turns into restricted flow, reduced pressure, and in many cases… water that isn’t as clean as it should be.

And this isn’t just affecting one faucet -
this is the main line feeding water to your entire home, including what you drink.

In this home, we replaced the old galvanized line with new copper piping, restoring proper flow, improving pressure, and giving the homeowner cleaner, more reliable water.

Most people don’t realize what’s happening inside their pipes until the symptoms show up.

If your water pressure has been dropping or something doesn’t feel right, it might be worth taking a closer look.

No stress. No surprises. Just professional plumbing.

This shouldn’t have power running through it…

In this home, the outer shell of the dishwasher was actually electrified.

Something most homeowners would never think to check — but in this case, it was caused by an improper electrical connection during installation.

Now imagine this:
Water. Metal. A young child nearby.

That’s a situation that could have turned dangerous very quickly.

This is why proper installation matters — not just for performance, but for safety inside your home.

You shouldn’t have to second guess whether something was done right.

If something in your home doesn’t feel right, or you just want peace of mind that everything is safe and installed properly, we’re always here to help.

No stress. No surprises. Just professional plumbing.

Most sump pumps don’t fail during a storm… they fail because of it.

And the problem is, most homeowners don’t realize their pump is old or struggling until water starts showing up in the basement.

In this video, Evan is installing a new Liberty sump pump system for a homeowner whose 20-year-old pump was starting to fail.

We installed:
• A Liberty primary sump pump
• A battery backup pump
• A StormCell battery system

So even if the power goes out during a heavy rainstorm, this family is still protected.

Because when frozen ground + heavy rain hit at the same time, sump pumps work their hardest - and that’s when older ones often give out.

If your sump pump is older, running constantly, or you’re simply not sure it will hold up during the next storm…

Don’t wait until the basement floods.

📞 Call Fast Lane Plumbing and we’ll make sure your sump pump system is ready for the next storm.

No stress. No surprises. Just professional plumbing.

Most homeowners don’t realize this…

But with time & material pricing, the longer the job takes, the more you pay.

And here’s the uncomfortable part.

In that system, a less experienced plumber can actually cost you more, simply because it takes them longer.

If one plumber can solve it in 2 hours and another takes 4…

Why should you pay double for the same result?

That’s not fair to you.
And it’s not how it should work.

The better the plumber, the more efficient the job.

Your price shouldn’t go up because someone moves slower.

That’s exactly why we use upfront, flat-rate pricing.

You know the investment before we start.

No watching the clock.
No wondering how long this is going to take.
No surprises at the end.

Just clear options.
Fair pricing.
Professional plumbing.

If you ever have questions about how pricing works, we’re happy to walk you through it.

No stress.

Just clarity.

When the ground is still frozen… heavy rain has nowhere to go.

That’s when sump pumps get tested the most.

During these freeze-thaw storms, groundwater rises fast and if your sump pump can’t keep up - or worse, fails - it can mean water in the basement before you even realize there’s a problem.

In this video, our technician Evan is installing a new Liberty sump pump to replace a 20-year-old unit that was starting to fail.

Most homeowners don’t think about their sump pump until it’s too late.

A working sump pump is one of the most important protections your home has against basement flooding during heavy rain and spring thaw.

If your pump is older, running constantly, or you’re simply not sure it’s ready for the next storm, now is the time to check it.

Most plumbing emergencies don’t start as emergencies.

They start as a small drip.
A slow drain.
Something you notice… but don’t have time to deal with.

And that makes sense.
You’re busy.
You’ve got work, kids, life happening.

Plumbing isn’t top of mind, until it has to be.

The problem is, small issues don’t usually stay small.

That’s why we try to make this easy.

We stay on top of things for our customers, especially our members, so little problems get handled before they turn into stressful ones.

No scrambling.
No surprises.

You don’t need to think about your plumbing all day.

Let us handle the plumbing.
You handle your life.

That’s what we do.

Most plumbing work isn’t about what you see.
It’s about what’s hiding behind the walls.

This space used to be an old clinic with a single sink. The new owners wanted to add a kitchenette and stackable laundry, which meant reworking the existing drainage and branching off the 2” line to make it fully code compliant.

Before we committed, we opened things up and confirmed the setup would work. No guessing. No shortcuts. Just proper planning and professional ex*****on.

Commercial plumbing requires clarity, compliance, and attention to detail - especially when modifying older infrastructure.

If you’re renovating a commercial space and want it handled properly from the start, we’re here to help.
