Weyburn Theatre Something BIG is coming to Weyburn! Our mission is to plan, construct and operate a movie theatre in the City of Weyburn.

Weyburn Theatre Community Service Cooperative is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to bringing a new experience to the city of Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Our vision is to blend the nostalgia of going to out to the cinemas, with the cinematic experience of a state-of-the-art movie theatre. The Soo Theatre has been the only movie theatre in Weyburn and has been closed for about 5 years. This h

as made it extremely difficult for families and friends to gather and watch new and exciting movies together. We want to bring back that nostalgic feeling of going out to the movies with your friends and family and experiencing movies on the big screen. The Weyburn Theatre Community Service Cooperative plans on demolishing the old Soo Theatre and building a brand-new state-of-the-art movie theatre on the same property. Construction plans to begin once we have hit our fundraising goals.

To mark this achievement, they committed $100,000 for 100 years of service, and we are honoured to have received $25,000 toward the Weyburn Theatre project.

🎬✨ Construction Update 🚧
The exterior of the building is nearing completion, and we’ve now begun the interior construction. Framing for walls and the layout of the theatre are starting to take shape.
Once that’s complete, we’ll move into the final stage, Phase 4: theatre fit-out, including technology, seating, and final commissioning.
We’re pushing forward to keep momentum going and bring a theatre back to Weyburn. 🍿
To make sure the project is sustainable when we open, we still need approximately $400,000.

🎭 Exciting news for the Weyburn Theatre project!

The City of Weyburn has partnered with the Saskatchewan Community Foundation to create a new donation fund supporting Weyburn community initiatives, including the movie theatre!
✔️ Donors will receive charitable tax receipts
✔️ An online donation portal will be available
✔️Applies to donations made after the fund launches

🚧Construction Update 🚧

Crews are continuing to work on the exterior and our vision is starting to come to life 🤩! Materials for this phase were purchased from our Walk of Fame sponsor, Prairie Sky Co-op , along with Rona Weyburn. Shoutout to DSI Contracting for keeping things moving after some cool and windy days. We can't wait to share more updates in the coming weeks showcasing YOUR community owned movie theatre.

Major Sponsor Announcement 📣! Weyburn Regional Economic Development (WRED) has entered into an agreement to become the 'Soo Theatre Legacy Sponsor'. WRED was an early supporter of this project, contributing seed money that allowed us to get started. Their total commitment now stands at $75,000! WRED's board of directors believes in the economic spinoff this project will have on our community, and we are thrilled they share our vision of bringing the movies back to Weyburn 🎬.
