In the wake of the federal government suspending its $5,000 “green” rebate for zero-emission vehicles (ZEV), several automakers have stepped up to fill the gap by offering equivalent incentives.

Nissan Canada announced it would provide a $5,000 rebate on its all-electric Ariya, while Hyundai Auto Canada confirmed it would make up the difference on its eligible vehicles for the remainder of January 2025.

General Motors has also just revealed that it would also offer the same $5,000 manufacturer rebate to Canadian buyers through the end of the month.

Additionally, Ford announced its own incentives, providing $5,000 rebates for its electric models and $2,500 for its Lincoln Corsair PHEV.

The Tesla Model Y electric crossover SUV – reportedly codenamed Juniper - has received a long-awaited overhaul with refreshed styling, new interior and slightly longer range ⚡️

The refreshed electric crossover had been rumoured for some time, with only camouflaged prototypes seen during testing.

The design updates align closely with the refreshed Model 3 sedan introduced last year.

The updated model features a new nose with an angular light bar reminiscent of Tesla’s Cybertruck pickup and the Cybercab robotaxi unveiled late last year. It also has a beefy light bar running across its rear. Otherwise, the exterior styling is largely identical to the current Model Y.

Interior updates include an ambient lighting strip running throughout the cabin, a screen for rear passengers and a stalk-less steering wheel.

The Long-Range All-Wheel Drive variant earns a 719-kilometer (446 mile) range estimate according to China’s testing procedure, which yields more generous ratings than the EPA figures we’re accustomed to in the U.S. That’s a slight, 4.5% increase over the 688 km (428 miles) previously provided by that trim. Tesla quotes a 0-62 mph sprint as low as 4.3 seconds.

A Major Milestone for EVs in Canada! ⚡️
In Q3 2024, 1 in 6 new vehicles registered in Canada was a Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) - a historic achievement! 📈

Key Takeaways from the S&P Global Report:
- ZEVs made up 16.5% of new vehicle registrations, a significant increase from 13.4% in Q2.
- Battery-Electric Vehicles (BEVs) saw a rise to 12.2%, while Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) climbed to 4.3%.

Provincial Leaders:
Quebec: 34.6% (Canada’s top ZEV adopter)
British Columbia: 24.9%

Yukon, PEI, and Ontario complete the top 5.
S&P Global forecasts that ZEVs will surpass 15% of new vehicle sales in 2024 and could reach 30% by 2027.
