Mr. Emil Fritz established Fritz Electric in the City of Kitchener in 1924. He began his business by working out of his house and his first service vehicle was a bicycle. An invoice from May 7, 1941 details a job involving a stove repair: the cost for the stove switch was $3.25 and Mr. Fritz’s labour charge was .50¢, for a grand total of $3.75. This framed invoice hangs at the present address of Fritz Electric, which is 50 Durward Pl. in Waterloo. Previous locations over the past 91 years include Wilhelm Street, Edna Street, Victoria Street, and Guelph St.
Fritz Electric was incorporated in 1958, and in 1974 Mr. Eugene Spieker, an employee with the company since 1961, purchased the business from Mr. Fritz. A new building on Guelph Street, next to the Expressway, was constructed in 1979. In 2014 the Guelph St. building and land were expropriated as part of the new Hwy 7 to Guelph project, and a move was made to the current location on Durward Pl.
Fritz Electric steadily and dependably offers the community of Kitchener-Waterloo quality electrical contracting services. Fritz Electric employs electricians who are qualified according to provincial standards and who maintain and upgrade their knowledge about the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and current standards and practices. Fritz Electric enjoys a mutually respectful relationship with the Electrical Safety Authority, which inspects electrical work in Ontario.
Currently, Mr. Ted Spieker (President) holds a Master Electrician’s license and the business maintains a current Electrical Contractor license with the Electrical Contractor Registration Agency (ECRA). Mr. Steve Kun has been a highly valued employee since 1988, and Laurie Spieker, Secretary, joined the business operations in 1991.
Fritz Electric offers its services in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors, and can be counted upon to complete a job with quality workmanship and in a timely manner. With the original home office and bicycle replaced by well-stocked service vehicles and an efficient office, Fritz Electric will continue to offer the community old-fashioned value for its business.
