The customer wanted these walls refinished because years of patching left them looking bumpy.

I gave them 3 coats of mud and a sand which left them looking brand new. The cost of labour on this job was $405, 9 hours at $45/hr, and it's a simple way of returning value after 40 years of use.

These are some stairs I built for a customer last summer. The old stairs were rotten and falling apart so I reused the old design since that's what the customer wanted. This kept the rebuilding process simple and efficient and since the old stairs lasted 50+ years it was assumed that it would last for the time period that the current owner will need them.

Pressure treated lumber was used so priming was done on selected sides to minimize rot, at the customers request. Priming and a durable top coat will be applied this summer since the wood needs a year to off-gas.

Premature painting of pressure treated lumber can result in the bubbling of the paint and reduce the life of the final finish.

When building with lumber it's important to identify the load forces and use the proper fasteners. For this project screws were when the lumber sits on top of a support such as the treads. All other components that are subject to shear loads were fastened with nails.

Cross braces were used under the treads to prevent flexing of the rails and the posts were left long since the customer wanted the option to add post lights in the future. Structural lag screws we used to fastener the stringers to the posts since they provide the shear strength and the customer had them on hand.

Brian Kelly Interiors doesn't advertise exterior building services but I did this for them because they haven't had the best experiences with trusting new contractors. The customer supplied all the materials which really helped me provide them with this service.

Brian Kelly Interiors does not offer structural construction services but we are happy to help people when they need it. We do offer exterior painting but we are primarily equipped to offer efficient and affordable interior finishing services.

This permitted 2 bedroom 2 bathroom basement suite was completed a few years ago and the home owner had me back to do touch-ups between tenants.

Starting from bare bones I brought it to life with insulation, vapour barrier, board, tape, paint, window boxes, doors and trim. All inspections were passed and it complies with provincial building codes to ensure that it will stand the test of time.

Hiring a professional isn't always about the quality you see because there are building and fire codes that require the attention of your builder.

Installation of floors, doors and trim followed by 2 coats of paint. The plaster in this home was in near perfect condition so we opted to paint the ceiling in a white eggshell finish to help reflect the light and keep it bright. These photos were taken 2 years after finishing and it's holding up great.
