2017: subway tile. 2027: stone backsplash. Stacked white subway tile is giving way to a full slab or stone backsplash. Fewer grout lines and more natural movement make the wall feel like a feature instead of a background.

2017: stainless steel sink. 2027: stone sink. Stainless is being replaced by sinks carved from stone or finished in the same material as the counter. It looks more built-in and sculptural, and it softens the whole sink area.

2017: barn wood island. 2027: fluted details on island. Rustic reclaimed wood is giving way to clean, vertical fluting. You still get texture and warmth, but in a more refined, tailored way.

The common thread here is a move from trend-driven finishes to materials that feel more permanent and considered.

2017 vs 2027 kitchen trends, part 1.

2017: white floating shelves. 2027: wood shelves with a brass rail. Painted white shelving is giving way to solid wood with a slim brass rail. It adds warmth and a bit of character, and gives you something real to style.

2017: all grey cabinets. 2027: cream and wood cabinets. Cool grey is being replaced by creamy off-whites and natural wood tones. The shift is toward warmth and texture, and away from a flat, uniform finish.

2017: black hardware. 2027: ch*****ne gold or brass hardware. Matte black pulls are making way for softer metallics. Brass and ch*****ne gold look better against warm cabinetry and age more gracefully.

The common thread is warmth. Kitchens are moving away from cool, high-contrast and toward softer, more natural materials.

2027 design trend predictions, part 2.

Purples, burgundy, and reds everywhere. Plum cabinetry, oxblood walls, and deep w**e tones are moving in as the new neutrals. They read warm and rich, especially against wood and brass.

The anti-matching dishware. Collected and mismatched is replacing the perfect set. Open shelving and glass-front cabinets are being styled with plates, bowls, and pottery gathered over time.

Colour mashups. Two or three colours that wouldn’t traditionally go together, layered on cabinets, tile, and textiles. Olive with chocolate brown is a good example. It feels collected rather than coordinated.

Less light and bright, more deep colours. The airy, all-white look is giving way to moodier, enveloping spaces. Dark walls and warm wood make a room feel cozy and finished.

Mix and match. No solo materials. Colours, patterns, and shapes are being combined within one space, so a single tile, stone, or finish no longer has to carry the whole room.

The return of the kitchen nook. Banquettes and breakfast corners are back. People want a place to actually sit, linger, and eat in the kitchen, not just cook in it.

The return of drama. Pattern-heavy tile, rich backsplashes, and statement range hoods are replacing the safe, all-white look. Think of the kitchen as a room with a point of view.

The return of colour. Muted greens, blue-greys, and earthy tones are showing up on cabinetry and walls. It’s colour with depth rather than bright, which keeps it livable.

The return of bold stone. Heavily veined marble and statement slabs are moving from accent to centrepiece, often carried up the backsplash. The stone becomes the focal point of the room.

The return of whimsy. Scalloped edges, playful tile patterns, and small unexpected details. Not a full theme, just a few touches that make a space feel personal.

4,383 days of grieving and living this life without you. The reality is, I will be grieving forever. I will never get over this loss. I’ve learned to live with it.
I’ve survived 12 long years and it feels like it’s been only been two.
I’ve learned to heal and rebuild myself around the loss I have suffered. I will never be the same again and nor do I need to be. I lost a huge part of me when my Dad died. I held onto him until the very end. 721pm Tuesday evening as the sun was disappearing.

I’m proud of who I am today and I know I would be different without his guidance. I continue to put in the work to heal.
The love I have for my Dad is immeasurable. He lights up our sky.
Not a day goes by that I don’t try and make him proud. A kind gesture, a donation, anything to live in his footsteps.
I carry him around with me everywhere I go.
Love you Daddy❤️
