The Ripe Tomato is a Victoria, BC - centric initiative dedicated to the promotion of healthy eating, healthy living, and sustainable existence. It is a forward-thinking company that focuses on how and why to grow your own vegetables, as well as all that encompasses the green lifestyle. It is a place for progressive discussion, education, and hopefully a community-wide realization that the current
system does not work. The status quo is not going to cut it and this inefficient use of resources cannot be sustained. Remember the old adage "Think Globally, Act Locally"? Well we'd like to update it to something with a little more relevance: Think Locally, Act Locally, DISCUSS Locally! We want the website and page to become a think-tank; a place where experts and the average person alike can post their thoughts and ideas to create a paradigm shift in thinking about where our food comes from and why the system in place is not for YOUR benefit. This site was created merely as a place for like-minded individuals and organizations to gather and talk about gardening, personal food production, healthy lifestyles, and possible solutions to relevant issues. It is not an answer, rather it is a process. A process we can all be a part of, whether its growing tomatoes on our balconies in the summer or re-working our front gardens to incorporate native plants instead of water-wasting exotic species. It can even be as seemingly small as helping someone with ideas on how to preserve all their extra vegetables and fruit for the season to as large as providing insight into commercial production of organic produce. You don't have to be from Victoria, British Columbia, or even Canada to join. The articles and discussions here have world-wide appeal and can be applicable for any region. No discussion, question, or idea is too small. It is all part of a process. A bigger picture that is larger than the sum of the parts that comprise it. Everyone likes to be healthy. Everyone likes good food. Everyone like to save money and everyone likes the feeling that they've "done their part". Make this website one of your favorites, participate in the discussion forum and you'll be doing all of those things, and more! Sincerely
The Ripe Tomato Team
