For anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Brett, you know that he has a way of making you feel at ease, even if he was a total stranger five minutes ago. 🖤

Brett just celebrated his first year at Blend, and somehow it already feels like he’s always been here. He’s always willing to share what he knows, take on more, and stay curious about what’s possible.

As one of our Project Managers, he brings the kind of calm to a project that’s hard to teach: the sort where clients feel heard, trades feel supported, and nothing goes sideways without a plan.

He’s also mid-build on his own home, which means the start of our weekly team meetings include a bonus segment on his latest design obsession that none of us signed up for- but all of us look forward to.

We recently asked Brett a few questions about his approach:

On project management:
"I try to bring a sense of calm and consistency to projects. Construction can become stressful and chaotic really quickly, and I care a lot about making sure people feel supported and informed- whether that's the client, consultants, or trades on site."

On what sets him apart:
“I’m naturally drawn to design, building science and problem solving. I’m always looking for ways to make processes smoother, more efficient, and better thought out while improving quality and the overall vision."

On what he genuinely cares about:
"I truly enjoy what I do and genuinely care about the people and projects I’m involved with. Clients are trusting you to help manage the build of their home, and I don't take that lightly."

How important are the details when it comes to building a vacation rental?

97% of travelers say amenities are a deciding factor when choosing a vacation rental. The details aren't a bonus, they're the reason people book.

If you've ever tried to get a construction mortgage in Canada, you know they aren't easy.

Even for traditional stick-built homes, the process can be challenging.

We build the house. Life builds the home.

Five years ago, we completed one of our very first Blend homes, a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home with over 1,800 square feet of thoughtfully crafted space, and a large deck overlooking the ocean.
The family we built it for lovingly called it ‘Hermosa Hill’, and quietly, steadily, it became something more than just walls and finishes.

A kitchen that has seen birthday cakes and late-night snacks. Light that has shifted through the seasons again and again across the same floors. Spaces that shaped themselves around a family, and a family that shaped themselves around this home. 🤍

That is what we set out to build. Not a house for a moment, but a home for a life.

When we say custom, we mean it. 🏡

Every design starts with a conversation- we get to know you, your lifestyle, and your vision before a single line is drawn.
This client fell in love with the open, expansive living space of our Rancher 9, but they also needed a comfortable spot for guests to call their own.

After reviewing local bylaw requirements, we designed the Rancher 9 connected via a laundry/breezeway to a private 2-bed, 1-bath suite.

The combination of large multi-panel sliding glass doors and 10 (!!!) skylights means nature won’t just be the view, it’ll feel like part of the home itself.

Did you know...

Blend's signature glulam beams are made from laminated layers of Douglas Fir? 🌲

These layers are bonded under pressure​ and stress-tested to achieve ​the required grade level for each project.

This means they’re as strong as they look... and ​we think they look pretty good!

Each beam measures approximately 5”×15” and can reach up to 19 ft long, weighing around 300 lbs each!

In some designs, we’re able to use a knife-plate connection, which is inset directly into the glulam so that the steel nearly disappears into the wood.

Set on 3 acres of ocean-front West Coast landscape, this Rancher 7 was designed to feel rooted in its place- connected to the forest, the shoreline, and the family history held here.

The exterior cedar siding is Canadian timber, milled locally in Sooke by Madrone Milling and finished with our signature “lifetime” treatment.
Over time, it will naturally shift in colour with the coastal weather, softening into tones that sit comfortably alongside the surrounding trees and rock.

This site once held a grandparent’s cabin, a gathering place that shaped the childhood memories of three siblings.
It was a privilege to help them build a new chapter here: a home made for coastal walks, muddy boots, long dinners, and the kind of everyday moments that become stories passed down for generations. 🌿🌊
