Next month is the perfect time to give your hydrangeas a little TLC! Here’s how to set them up for a stunning summer display:
🌱 Prune with Purpose - Not all hydrangeas are the same!
• Bigleaf (macrophylla) – Only prune dead stems; they bloom on old wood.
• Panicle & smooth hydrangeas – These bloom on new wood, so you can prune back by about ⅓ to shape and encourage strong growth.

Not sure which type you have? We’re happy to help!

🌸 Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to give roots the nutrients they need as growth begins. Early March is ideal before the big spring push.

💧Check Drainage - Victoria’s winter rains can compact soil. Loosen the top layer gently and ensure water drains well. Hydrangeas love moisture but hate soggy roots.

🌼Mulch Matters - Add a fresh layer of mulch (2–3 inches) to regulate soil temperature and retain moisture heading into spring.

A little care now = gorgeous blooms all summer long 🌞
