“No surprises. Just good building.”

That phrase has guided a lot of our work over the years.

Most renovations, especially in older homes, come with uncertainty. Hidden conditions appear, plans evolve, and decisions shift as projects unfold. We’ve never believed the answer is pretending uncertainty doesn’t exist.

For us, good building starts with honesty, communication, and careful attention to the realities of the work itself.

It means:
• transparent cost-plus construction
• thoughtful preconstruction planning
• clear communication throughout the process
• and building spaces that genuinely support how people live

We’re proud to see this philosophy featured in SPRUCE Magazine alongside one of our recent projects.

Beautiful spaces matter.
But so does the experience of getting there.

As we head into the Victoria Day long weekend here in British Columbia, we’re reminded how connected life on Vancouver Island is to the landscapes around us.

This photo was taken with part of the Green Island Builders crew near the Kludahk Trail — one of those places that reminds you to slow down a little, breathe deeper, and pay attention to where you are.

For many people across BC, this weekend marks the beginning of the season. Time spent on trails, beside lakes, along the coast, and gathered with friends and family outdoors.

For Green Island Builders, those experiences shape a lot of how we approach our work and culture. We believe good building is connected to place, community, and creating space for a balanced and meaningful life beyond work itself.

We hope everyone finds some time to rest, recharge, and enjoy this remarkable part of the world over the long weekend.

Happy Victoria Day weekend from all of us at Green Island Builders.

Space, used well.

This kitchen started out like a lot of early 2000s condos —
good light, good location, but the layout and finishes weren’t working.

We focused on making the space actually function.

The cabinetry now runs full height, storage is built in where it’s needed, and the layout is tighter and more intentional.
Nothing excessive — just decisions that make the kitchen easier to use day to day.

It’s still a small footprint, but it feels calm, open, and properly resolved.

Designed and built by Green Island Builders.

Proud to see this one featured in SPRUCE Magazine’s Kitchen + Bath issue.

Today is International Women’s Day.

The skilled trades in Canada have historically been one of the most male-dominated sectors of the workforce. Even today, women represent only a small percentage of tradespeople nationally. That reality reflects decades of barriers to entry, limited access to apprenticeships, and workplace cultures that were not always welcoming.

But the industry is changing.

Across Canada, more women are entering the trades as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, project managers, designers, and leaders on construction sites.

Green Island Builders recognizes that a strong building culture depends on inclusive workplaces where people of all backgrounds can succeed in the trades.

Today we celebrate the women helping build homes, careers, and a better construction industry.

Before → After | Metchosin Project

This Metchosin home received a full refresh across three key spaces: the primary ensuite, the main bathroom, and the laundry room. Our goal was to transform dated and utilitarian rooms into calm, highly functional spaces with a clean, contemporary feel.

The new primary ensuite introduces a spa-like atmosphere with a freestanding tub, a glass walk-in shower with integrated niche lighting, and a warm walnut double vanity that grounds the space. Light stone tile and soft textures create a bright, tranquil environment.

The main bathroom was reimagined to feel more intentional and character-rich, using thoughtful materials and lighting to elevate what was previously a simple, utilitarian room.

In the laundry room, function led the design. A large farmhouse sink, durable flooring, and built-in bench storage create a practical mudroom-style space that supports daily life while still feeling cohesive with the rest of the home.

Swipe to see the transformation.
