Emergency boiler swap completed just in time for the weekend!

If you recall our post from a week ago, we were servicing this poorly installed, 7 year old combi boiler to try and breathe a little more life into her. Skip to this week and our customer called again - this time with no domestic hot water. Turns out the internal pump was failing (probably a result of no hydraulic separation).

Instead of trying to replace more parts and incur more costs as a result of an improper installation, we called time of death and swapped it for a new combi boiler from

Although this one was a budget build reusing most of the original parts that were still in good condition, we still put some extra care in to our install to do things proper and professional. Added our favourite circulator by , condensate neutralizer, expansion tank service bracket, and proper .nibco service valves on the domestic water ports.

A persistent error code on this 7 year old, M Series Rinnai combi boiler left these customers with no hot water. But upon showing up to diagnose things, we discovered a number of other problematic issues.

At Groundswell, we have our preferred brands of boilers but I’m of the opinion that a lot of issues with problematic equipment stems from improper installation.

Like this set up with no primary/secondary hydraulic separation, circulator pump installed backwards, no service valves on the domestic water lines, no condensate neutralizer, back grading venting, and years of neglected maintenance.

A thorough heat exchanger flush and other minor improvements got the hot water back on for today but a full repipe and possible boiler swap is being quoted.

Don’t be outfoxed by slick salesmen and uncertified tradesmen. Call Groundswell Mechanical instead for all your hot water heating needs.

Steam shower is under construction at this whole house renovation for and apprentice is loving it!

This Pro Series generator is gonna sit in a tight spot hidden under a shower bench so we opted to jump ahead of framing for an easier install.

Just need some power and then finishes and then can’t wait to get steaming.

Caught the boys in action installing this heat pump today and even got roped into some heavy lifting!

We are stoked to get some cooling working in this brand new home for .construction! This home overlooks Kalamalka Lake with some huge, south facing windows which makes for an amazing view but comes with some serious solar gain to deal with. Thankfully this cold climate heat pump from will pump 5 tons of cooling throughout the building and keep everyone inside comfortable for the hot summer months ahead.

Commissioning at this home in Summerland and this time it’s a fully electric system with 3 ton heat pump and air handler from keeping things cool!
