Retaining wall with a low-maintenance planting bed on top, ornamental grasses, Russian sage, and rock mulch instead of a thirsty lawn. Looks good year-round and barely needs any upkeep once it's established.

Late August is peak wildfire season in the Okanagan — a good time to think about whether your property is set up to handle it.

FireSmart landscaping focuses on reducing the fuel load around your home: non-combustible ground cover, spacing between plants, cleared zones near structures, and materials that don't catch and carry a flame. Combined with thoughtful design, it produces a yard that looks great and works harder when conditions get serious.

We've been building FireSmart landscapes across the Okanagan Valley — Peachland, Summerland, Penticton, Kelowna, and the North Okanagan — for homeowners who want their property to be both beautiful and protected.

If that's where you're at, we'd be glad to talk.

This backyard transformation shows what a full gravel and grading project looks like from start to finish.

Before: patchy lawn with stepping stones and a basic fence. After: the entire yard was excavated, graded, and covered with clean gravel, with proper edging and a rebuilt retaining wall along the back.

It's not the most glamorous kind of project — but it's one of the most common problems we see across the Okanagan Valley. Yards that drain poorly, shift every winter, or just don't function the way the homeowner needs them to.

This kind of work fixes that permanently.

Fall project slots are filling up — if a landscaping project has been on your list, the time to book is now.

Most hardscaping work in the Okanagan Valley is best completed before the ground freezes and the weather turns. Retaining walls, paving stone patios, front yard overhauls, xeriscaping conversions — all of these are better planned and started in late summer or early fall.

We're currently booking projects across the Valley — serving Vernon, Kelowna, Lake Country, Oyama, Penticton, and surrounding areas.

A free consultation is the first step. No obligation, no pressure — just a clear picture of what's possible and what it would take.

Before and after — this backyard went from sparse grass and scattered white rocks to a complete outdoor living space with a lush lawn, stone retaining wall, paved patio, and clean planting beds.

Both sides of the transformation are visible in this composite. The site was regraded, drainage was addressed, and the whole space was redesigned to be functional, low-maintenance, and visually strong.

This is the kind of full-yard transformation we handle across the Okanagan Valley — Kelowna, West Kelowna, Armstrong, and surrounding communities.

This is what outdoor living looks like.

River rock xeriscaping, raised garden beds, a firepit circle, full perimeter fencing, and complete pool surround. This large backyard transformation turned an empty space into a complete low-maintenance outdoor living room.

Every element was chosen for durability and low upkeep. The plants thrive with minimal water. The hardscape is built to last. The design creates natural zones for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying the space year-round.

That's the difference between a yard and an outdoor space. Ready to create yours? Book a free consultation at greenstonesolutions.ca.

FireSmart landscaping isn't complicated — it's strategic.

The core idea is creating defensible space around your home by choosing fire-resistant materials and plants, reducing fuel near structures, and managing ground cover so a wildfire has less to feed on. In the Okanagan Valley, where fire season is a reality every summer, this isn't precautionary — it's practical.

We design and build FireSmart landscapes across the Valley — Peachland, Summerland, West Kelowna, Oyama, and beyond — that protect property without sacrificing how your yard looks and lives.

If wildfire risk is on your mind this season, a free consultation is a good first step.

Site prep and retaining wall construction underway on this project in the Okanagan Valley.

The crew is setting the base course, confirming grade, and getting the drainage in place before the wall goes any higher. This phase isn't glamorous, but it's where the longevity of the project is determined. A wall built on a proper compacted base with drainage behind it will outlast one built on shortcuts by decades.

We take this part as seriously as the finish work — because both matter.
