There are other options available to reuse old flourscent cans instead of throwing them out. Direct drive LED 4' bulbs can be installed, which only draw 18W @ 2000 Lumens each. No ballast means another item that won't need maintenance. These LED lights have twice the life and half the energy consumption of flourscents.

Let there be light! Upgraded generator lights, due to voltage fluctuations produced by the generator, specialty LED panel lights needed to be installed to protect the driver from prematurely going bad. Not cheap, but you end up with a lasting product.
Cheaper in most cases is not better!
