The Spotted Lanternfly (SLF) was recently intercepted in St. Catharines, Ont., after a dozen dead adult insects were found on a shipment of planting pots from Pennsylvania.
The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) is urging plant nurseries to exercise extra caution when inspecting deliveries from U.S. regions with known SLF infestations. Growers are encouraged to consult the Cornell Integrated Pest Management map to monitor affected counties in the northeast U.S.
If you spot a Spotted Lanternfly, report it immediately to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Try to catch the specimen for identification purposes, take clear photos, and record as much information as possible, including where it was found, what plant material or vehicle it was on, etc. If SLF is found in a shipment, ensure that the shipment stays contained and separated and wait for further instructions from the CFIA.
