The outside still looks like the house that was always there. Everything holding it up is new.

Footing and wall formed tight against an existing structure, poured, cured, waterproofed and backfilled.

The hardest part of below-grade work on an old house isn't the concrete. It's making new work meet something built before anyone alive was born.

Water finds the one spot you skipped. 🔌

Seams banded, two coats of liquid membrane worked into every corner and change of plane, mortar bed floated to fall before any of it gets sealed.

None of this is visible in the finished bathroom. It's also the only reason that bathroom is still dry in thirty years — so it's the part we photograph.
