Sometimes it’s more cost effective to make the attic space into a condition space by using a closed cell Sprayfoam to the underside of the roof line. Eliminating the need for frost boxing of the sprinkler system or wrapping R20 on all the ducts and using insulated pot lights.

(Please note that not all municipality’s accept the same things and have different requirements they will accept, so please check with your local building department )

As you can see below, the h vac ducting, air conditioning, etc...has been wrapped with R20 fibreglass Insulation. The reason? This is a fairly new rule that the building code requires as we get closer to building air tight structures. Conditioned space in exterior attics are becoming a requirement to house the air handlers, furnaces, etc. So if you’re planning your next custum build, make sure to make allowances for this, so you won’t be caught by surprise.
