Some of our team spent Wednesday evening at Appliance Canada’s VIP designer event in Richmond with Signature Kitchen Suite: great food, good conversation, and a firsthand look at SKS appliances in action. Sous vide demonstrations and Gourmet AI technology, all built around precision cooking and the way people actually cook.

Evenings like this are a good reminder of why we love this work: continually learning what is new, and coming home full of ideas for your kitchen.

Character homes ask a different question.

Not what would you replace. What would you keep.

In this Vancouver renovation, the leaded glass stayed. The wood doors stayed. The inlaid floors and the tile fireplaces stayed. The kitchen and bathroom moved forward, with new cabinetry, new tile, and new fixtures that suit the rooms around them.

That is the work in a character home: you update what has to work harder, and you leave the details that make the house what it is alone.

A big congratulations to our team at Alair Chilliwack (Chris + Joyce Klaassen) for being featured in the The Globe and Mail.

The article takes a look at this custom dogtrot home on Chilliwack Mountain: two structures under one green roof, connected by a covered breezeway, with views across the Fraser Valley.

The homeowners chose 2,100 square feet and put their budget into the details, from copper wall panels to curbless showers built for aging in place. Built by Chris + Joyce Klaassen, it’s one of the most unique homes our Chilliwack team has ever taken on.

Alair Homes Maple Ridge

A client once stopped Justin mid-design and asked, “What would you do if you lived here?”

That question stuck with him, because that level of trust is what he works toward on every project. Justin Endresen is an Owner and Partner at Alair Homes Maple Ridge and Langley, where he leads sales and operations and helps clients take their first confident steps into a build.

Most of his job, he’ll tell you, happens behind the scenes: navigating municipal red tape, setting realistic expectations, and making sure no project starts before the designs, selections, and team are truly ready. He’s learned that rushing the start is how you put the finish at risk.

In Maple Ridge, he loves the blank slate of larger rural properties. In Langley, it’s the homes with history, reimagined for the way families live now.

First thing he does on a job site? Makes sure it’s clean. Coffee order? One milk, one honey.

And if you spot him biking the d**e trails to The Patch Brewery with his daughter, that’s the balance he’s proudest of.

Most people assume this job is about lumber and concrete. Roman will tell you the house is usually the easy part.

As Owner and Project Manager at Alair Burnaby, Roman spends his days coordinating architects, structural engineers, the City of Burnaby, suppliers, and more than a dozen trades on a single project, sometimes all in the same week. One trade partner running a day behind can shift an entire schedule, so keeping everyone aligned is most of the work most people never see.

He’s also a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC®), so even on projects that aren’t certified Passive House, his clients get the benefit of that building science: better airtightness, lower utility bills, and a home that holds its temperature without fighting to do it. When a build gets complicated, his approach doesn’t change: get the facts, bring the right people to the table, and solve one issue at a time.
