DFO has put in place measures that ensure orcas in the Salish Sea have enough salmon to eat. The measure in question will limit a few hundred well-fed boomers with $250,000 offshore fishing boats to catching just 4 of the 5 species of salmon in waters frequented by Southern Resident Orca families. That’s right, these poor men are are not allowed to catch Chinook salmon during certain months of the year in waters near Victoria, BC. They will have to limit themselves to pink, sockeye, coho, and chum salmon. But according to this lobbyist for the commercial fishing charter industry, enforcing this limit will somehow cause “thousands of children” to suffer. Do you believe him?
