Nick Milkovich Architects Inc.

Nick Milkovich Architects Inc. We're a full-service architecture firm based in Vancouver Nick Milkovich Architects Inc.

is a well-recognized design practice with an extensive catalogue of diverse projects. Established in 1991 in Vancouver, Canada, the firm emerged out of the reorganization of Arthur Erickson Architects. Having worked in collaboration with Arthur Erickson since 1968, Founder and Principal Nick Milkovich has set the firm to carry forward the design approach which has earned his mentor an eminent posi

tion in architectural practice. Our approach is holistic, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of the entire project team. The hallmark of our design process and our guiding objective is to let the project conditions speak as the work unfolds, to interpret and design without any limiting preconceptions. We welcome any type of project that challenges us to seek creative solutions and believe as a result of this process that the most imaginative, appropriate and often precedent-setting design solutions are disclosed, whether for a large urban master planning project or for the smallest detail in a custom residence. Consequently, our client relationships are characterized by a high degree of personal service, coupled with respect for the precious resources of cost and time. The practice accepts commissions both locally and internationally and offers professional services in architecture, interior design, urban design and master planning, feasibility studies and sustainability practices for all levels of government, institutions, corporations, developers and private clients. Environmental awareness is an integral aspect of the firm’s culture as it evolves to meet today’s challenges.

The seismic renewal of the UBC Museum of Anthropology’s Great Hall preserves its singular architecture while addressing vulnerabilities. The rebuilt Great Hall employs a base isolation system—the inaugural use in a new-build structure in Canada—dampening the transmission of seismic ground forces. The vertical glazing system provides ultraviolet protection and enhanced seismic resiliency. Acrylic skylights were replaced with curved insulated glazing units and integrated systems to improve waterproofing and performance. Grounded in deep collaboration, the rebuild extends the building’s life, ensuring MOA remains a place where Indigenous knowledge and culture are preserved and shared for future generations.

Once perched on our client's rooftop to scare off the birds, somewhere along the way, this decoy's body broke—but the head remained, quietly holding its post.

During the roof renovation, the crew brought it down and set it on their worktable, where it’s now pulling its weight as a paperweight.

If it serves a purpose, it belongs—just like good design.
