The doors open today.

For this year’s show, we designed our booth as a small extension of the Longpre Architecture studio, a place to sit down, look at ideas, and have the conversations that should happen before construction begins.

If you are considering a custom home, renovation, interiors, or a multiplex, come find us at Booth 1035. Bring a drawing, a property, a problem, or simply an idea.

And if you’re heading downtown for Bruno Mars Friday or Saturday night, come by the Convention Centre first and make an afternoon of it.

Ready for the masses
𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗜𝗦 𝗦𝗘𝗧𝗨𝗣 𝗗𝗔𝗬.

After weeks of designing, printing, planning, and probably overthinking every last detail, Longpre Architecture is moving into the Vancouver Convention Centre today for the Vancouver Fall Home Show.
This year, we did not want to build a typical trade show booth. We are creating a temporary Longpre Architecture satellite office, a small place on the show floor where people can actually sit down, bring us their ideas, and talk openly about architecture.
Thinking about a custom home, major renovation, multiplex, addition, interiors, or simply trying to understand what might be possible with your property? Come talk to us.
Bring drawings. Bring photos. Bring a property listing. Bring the idea you have been carrying around in your head. Or just bring questions.
We will be there all 4 days talking design, feasibility, permitting, construction, budgets, risk, and how to start a project properly before decisions become expensive.

Japavarian Shores, The Stair
A stair designed as more than a way between floors.
What began as a circulation space became an opportunity to create another room within the house, one shaped by millwork, art, light, and the ritual of moving through it.

Continuous walnut millwork wraps the stair and conceals a significant amount of storage within the architecture. Full height cabinetry is layered with finely fluted panels, open display niches, warm brass hardware, and integrated lighting. Rather than reading as a wall of cupboards, the composition is intended to feel architectural, with a strong rhythm that follows the stair through each level.

The existing black steel railing is softened with a solid wood handrail, bringing warmth to something that was previously more utilitarian. Wool carpet underfoot further quiets the space and creates a softer transition into the lower level.

At the landing, shelving turns the stair into a place for objects, books, plants, and art. Indigenous art from the Pacific Northwest brings another layer of place and cultural context to the interior, set against the warmth and restraint of the walnut.

There is a Japavarian sensibility here, but the expression is less about a particular style than the ideas behind it, craftsmanship, natural material, repetition, restraint, and permanence.
Even the transitional spaces of a home deserve to feel considered.

Craft. Rhythm. Passage.

A private bedroom designed as a sanctuary at the edge of the Pacific.

This room is built around contrast, openness and enclosure, softness and structure, calm and depth. Expansive glazing opens the bedroom completely to the Vancouver waterfront, while deep blue walls pull the eye back inward, grounding the room and creating a sense of intimacy within the larger landscape.

White oak millwork wraps the space in warmth, layered with inverted fluted panels, soft wool carpet, warm brass, integrated lighting, and carefully composed storage. The hardware introduces a subtle hammered texture, a small crafted detail that gives the room another level of tactility and reinforces the West Coast character of the interior.

There is a quiet ryokan sensibility here, but interpreted through a distinctly Vancouver lens. Natural materials, restrained detailing, warm light, and strong architectural rhythm create a room that feels protected without feeling closed off.

The intention was never simply to design a beautiful bedroom. It was to create a place that feels restorative, somewhere to retreat, reset, and reconnect with the ocean beyond the glass.

A sanctuary shaped by material, light, craft, and place.

Dr. Japavarian Office

A private office designed as a place to retreat, focus, and reset.

This room draws from the principles of the Arts and Crafts movement, Japanese joinery, Scandinavian restraint, and the quiet monumentality of the Houses of Parliament in London. The result is something we have been calling Japavarian, a language built around craftsmanship, warmth, rhythm, and permanence.

Rich walnut millwork wraps the room, layered with deep green panels, reeded glass, warm brass, stone, integrated lighting, and carefully composed storage. Every shelf, drawer, cabinet, and reveal was designed as part of one continuous architectural composition.

The intention was never simply to create a home office. For a surgeon whose professional life demands incredible focus, the room needed to feel calm, grounded, and deeply personal, a place where the materiality itself helps slow everything down.

Outside, the Vancouver waterfront becomes part of the room. Inside, warm timber, filtered light, art, books, and objects create a sense of intimacy and permanence.

Craft. Calm. Honour.

Victoria Haus

One of the defining moments of Victoria Haus is finally coming into focus.

These vertical slats were designed to give the tall recessed opening a sense of enclosure without turning it into a wall. They provide privacy, filter views, create shadow and depth, and reinforce the vertical proportion of the architecture.

From a distance, they read almost as a dark plane. As you move closer, the facade becomes more porous and the depth of the opening begins to reveal itself.

Set against the warm wood soffit, dark shingles and existing brick, the repetition of the slats gives the elevation rhythm and helps make the recess feel carved into the building rather than simply attached to it.

It is one of those details that does several things at once, which is often where the architecture becomes most interesting.

Victoria Haus
It has taken a long time to get to this point, but today feels like a big one.
Victoria Haus is finally being painted, and this is the moment when the architecture really starts to reveal itself.
For so long, a project exists in drawings, renderings, details and unfinished construction. Then the colour goes on, the forms sharpen, the depth becomes visible, and suddenly you can see the vision that has been there all along.
It is an exciting day to see it finally coming together.
Victoria Haus will be ready for move in soon.

Meaningful buildings start with architects.

Before the builder, before the quote, before the first rushed decision, there is an idea.

Sometimes that idea is clear. Sometimes it is only a feeling, a problem, a property, a family need, or a question you are not sure how to ask yet. That is exactly where architecture should begin.

At Longpre Architecture, our role is to help shape that beginning with care, clarity, and backbone. We help clients understand what is possible, what is risky, what should be protected, and what needs to happen before the build starts defining the project.

Bring us your idea, before the builder.

Victoria Haus is a Vancouver fourplex shaped through Longpre Architecture’s Japavarian design language, a response to a city caught between density, real estate pressure, and the human longing for retreat.

The project draws from the familiar form of the Vancouver Special, the warmth of a Bavarian farmhouse, and the texture of English manor inspired brickwork. A strong central gable anchors the composition, while layered brick volumes create depth, privacy, and a sense of discovery.

Each home is designed with protected outdoor space, including secluded rooftop patios that extend daily life into the city while preserving a feeling of retreat.

Victoria Haus is our answer to modern Vancouver living: density without soullessness, sophistication without coldness, and beauty without performance. A place in the city with the spirit of a retreat.
