The Octopus was about executing a highly detailed infill that intentionally contrasts the restored heritage “Big House.” Every angle, offset, and junction was built to make the geometry read clearly, without mimicking the original structure. The interlocking volumes, stepped forms, and inverted townhouse layouts demanded tight coordination to balance light, views, and privacy across all units.
The material transitions were key: concrete at the base, dark board-and-batten at street level, and light standing-seam metal above, all aligned to reinforce the building’s form. Built around a shared courtyard, the project required precision across structure, envelope, and finish to support both private homes and shared space—showing how well-executed infill can be dense, durable, and genuinely livable.
