📣UPDATE:
❄️ Significant Weather event update – A Message to Our Community ❄️
Good afternoon, everyone.
I wanted to take a moment to connect with you following the significant snowstorm that hit our community from Sunday night through late Monday.
First and foremost, I hear you and I have been trying my best to respond to the long list of private messages, emails and tags on various platforms over the last 2 days (very early to very late at night) to help people stay informed, provide helpful advice and resources.
The road conditions have been difficult, and I fully understand the frustration, delays, and challenges many of you have experienced. This was a major weather event, and it has had a real impact across Greater Sudbury.
Please know that City crews, as well as all snow removal contractors, have been working around the clock since the start of the storm (4:30pm on Sunday) and haven't stopped.
With the volume of snow we received, this is a full-scale response effort.
Our Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was activated to help coordinate resources, prioritize routes, and ensure we are addressing the most critical needs first.
🚜 Where we are now:
• Cleanup is well underway across the city
• Priority routes, main roads, and emergency access areas have been the initial focus
• Crews are now continuing into residential areas and secondary roads and they expect to have those tended to sometime tomorrow 🤞
Due to the significant accumulation of snow, crews are using graders in many areas to help push and manage the volume. These are powerful and necessary tools for conditions like this; however, they operate at a slower pace, which is contributing to longer-than-usual service times across the city.
As a result, it will take longer than our normal service standards to reach every neighborhood. We truly appreciate your patience as teams continue this work safely and as efficiently as possible.
🙏 A few important requests to help us move faster:
• Please avoid stopping snowplow operators to ask questions or raise concerns
➡️ Every stop delays the overall clearing process for everyone
• Once the emergency response phase is lifted, we encourage residents to use 311 for specific service requests or concerns
• If possible, continue to give crews space to operate safely
📣 Stay informed:
We encourage everyone to follow the City of Greater Sudbury on Facebook or Instagram, or visit the City’s website, for the latest updates and information as cleanup continues.

💛 Thank you.
Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and for supporting one another during this storm. Northern communities are strong because of the people in them—and this is another example of that resilience and what makes our city, GREATER!
We will continue to share updates as progress continues.
Stay safe out there and continue to help one another 🙏
