🌿 Giant hogweed is an invasive plant in the carrot family that is commonly confused with the native cow parsnip. Although the two species look similar, a few key features can help distinguish them.

🔍 Giant hogweed:
• Large, umbrella-shaped white flower clusters (June–August)
• Shiny, deeply serrated leaves up to 1 metre wide
• Hollow stems with purple blotches and coarse white hairs
• Can grow up to 5.5 metres tall

🌿 Cow parsnip:
• Much shorter, typically 1.5–2.5 metres (5–8 feet) tall
• Smaller, non-shiny leaves (up to 0.75 metres/2.5 feet wide)
• Smaller flower clusters

⚠️ Use caution around both plants. Giant hogweed sap contains toxic compounds that can cause severe burns, blisters, and skin irritation when exposed to sunlight. Contact with the eyes can result in temporary or permanent vision damage. Cow parsnip is also phototoxic.
