🌳 This Norway Maple had a failing union and included bark between co-dominant stems, creating a structural weakness that required supplemental support.

After assessing the tree’s structure, cabling and bracing were used to provide additional support to the compromised union. Selective end-weight reduction can also help reduce leverage and mechanical stress on vulnerable stems.

Tree support systems are designed to help limit excessive movement and reduce the likelihood of further union failure. While they cannot eliminate the risk of failure, they can be an effective management option for preserving structurally compromised trees when appropriate. With proper installation, ongoing monitoring, and maintenance, supplemental support can help extend the life and enjoyment of valuable mature trees. 🌳

📕 Hiring a certified arborist with the experience and knowledge required to successfully perform this work is key. Our team follows all industry standards set out by the International Society of Arboriculture.

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

Today, we wear orange to honour the children who never returned home, for the survivors, their families, and communities.

As people who work in and care for the landscape, we recognize that we live and work on Mi’kma’ki, the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people.

We acknowledge the history, listen, learn, and commit to doing our part toward truth and reconciliation.

Please visit the link below to learn more about A Day to Listen, taking place today 6am-6pm on local radio stations. Let’s honour truth with action.

🌱 For National Forest Week, it’s important to know that removal is not always the best option.

🪢 Sometimes a tree has structural weaknesses, competing leaders, or heavy limbs that need a little extra support. This tree had an included union that needed some assistance. Cabling and bracing, along with proper pruning, can significantly reduce structural stress and extend the enjoyment and useful life of the tree.

Every tree is different, and this solution isn’t appropriate for every situation. An assessment by a qualified tree professional is important to determine your tree’s needs - and we can help!

🌳 This Forest week, let’s find the right way to help our trees thrive and invest in their future.
