Some of the most expensive problems on a construction project are created before anyone steps onto the jobsite.
A detail that looks fine on a drawing can become a completely different story once you have to actually build it.
Access, sequencing, tolerances, material lead times, temporary conditions, trade overlap and installation methodology can turn a seemingly simple detail into a schedule and cost problem very quickly.
One thing running projects has reinforced for me is the value of getting the people who actually understand the installation involved early.
A good constructability review isn’t just checking whether something can be built.
It’s asking:
Can it be built safely?
Can it be built efficiently?
Are the trades sequenced properly?
Is there actually enough room to install it?
What happens when field conditions don’t perfectly match the drawings?
And are we solving those questions now — or paying to solve them later?
The cheapest problem to fix on a construction project is usually the one you catch before construction starts.
