✨February 15, 2026/November 8, 2025 – After the Hudson’s Bay Company closed in 2025, the brass signs around the exterior of the flagship store — bounded by Queen St W, Yonge St, Richmond St W, and Bay St — were removed, revealing “SIMPSONS” in the stone beneath.

✨The building was originally home to the Robert Simpson Co. department store, which opened in the mid-1890s. In 1978, the Hudson’s Bay Company acquired the property, and in 1991, this location transitioned from Simpsons to The Bay. Note that these photographs were taken from two different locations on the building.

Julia’s work as the firm’s Historian and Cultural Heritage Specialist complements and supports the firm’s award-winning architectural design team. Since starting with SBA, Julia has been integral to the firm’s expanded specialization in cultural heritage resource management and expertise related to heritage planning and reporting.

Julia is looking forward to continuing to work with public and private clients to develop in principled heritage reporting, to find smart and pragmatic solutions to heritage-related concerns, and to serve as a steward of heritage resources with a focus on creative approaches to build the future while honouring the past.
