NASA Space Apps Toronto 2026 | Meet the Challenges
We’re starting our series introducing the 14 challenges for this year’s NASA Space Apps Challenge.
Here are the first three:
1. Abandoned but not Forgotten: Storytelling about NASA’s Discarded Equipment on the Moon and Mars
Explore the stories behind NASA hardware left on the Moon, Mars and beyond. Create a way to introduce young space enthusiasts to these missions, the equipment and the science they made possible.
Difficulty: Beginner/Youth, Intermediate
Subjects: Astrophysics, Planets & Moons, Space Exploration
2. Be An Earth System Trend Detective!
Use data from NASA missions and models to investigate how Earth’s environmental systems are changing. Find trends, visualize them over time and explore what is changing, where, and by how much.
Difficulty: Advanced
Subjects: Earth Science, Software
3. Build a Junior Astronaut Mission Trainer
Create an interactive game or app that lets students manage a lunar or Martian outpost. They’ll have to balance life support, radiation protection, power, food and other competing needs to keep the mission running.
Difficulty: Beginner/Youth, Intermediate
Subjects: Games, Planets & Moons, Software, Space Exploration, Sun
Three challenges, three very different ways to explore space, science and technology.
