Sometimes an outfit needs a little bling to complete the look. The same rule applies to your home: lighting makes or breaks a space.
Tips:
Layer lighting at different heights to bring dimension to your rooms. Don't be afraid of lamps and wall sconces.
Use 2700 to 3000k dimmable bulbs for setting the mood without it looking like a hospital.
Think outside the box for materials such as heritage brass, copper, porcelain, jute, stone, and paper to bring a little drama to the space.
Hang island pendants just slightly above the tallest resident or regular guest. If you don't know anyone over 6 feet tall, that's a good height as a starting point. This way no one hits their heads and the bulbs are hidden from view.
Scale matters. For larger ceilings, look at larger spreads. For smaller rooms, play with smaller lights but with visible textures that are unique.
A light over a soaker tub is a must. A light over the bed is a must. A light beside or above a bathroom mirror is a must. Lighting above an island is a must. Table lamps and floor lamps are a must.
Vanity lighting can be tricky. The ideal lighting for makeup and looking your best are soft bulbs on both sides of the mirror installed a little higher than face level.
