Career Connections

Career Connections Insurance Career Connections raises awareness about great careers in the insurance industry. Brought to you by the Insurance Institute of Canada.

Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions of your life. A career in insurance is not typically a career many people consider as they plan a career path for themselves. But, it should be because your interests and your experience may add up to a great career in insurance. Career Connections is a career awareness program aimed at encouraging young adults and career seekers to pursue o

ne of the many skilled professions available in the insurance industry. To help promote insurance as a stable and vital industry, we also work to enhance the understanding of insurance and explain its role in society. The Career Connections page provides career changers, post secondary students and high school students with information on careers in the insurance industry. It also is a forum for sharing posts related to career events, especially those which Career Connections participates in and hosts. We encourage anyone interested in a career in insurance to like our Page to find information, explore the breadth of career options and learn how to get started on a career path in the property and casualty insurance industry. We also encourage insurance professionals to participate in this community by sharing knowledge and expertise on careers in the industry. Enjoy the group and please let us know how we can maximize its dynamics to benefit your needs. Social Media Policy Statement:

🌙 One more Coffee Chats After Dark, then we're pressing pause.

If you've been curious about a specific area in the insurance industry, this is a great chance to learn more about it from someone who actually works in it.

Each session is led by a different insurance professional with their own experience and knowledge. You choose the one that interests you, join the conversation, and ask whatever questions you have. It's a small group, so you'll also get to meet other people who are exploring the industry too.

The best part? It's online, it's only one hour, and it's an evening session. Just adjust to your time zone and you're in.

We're pausing Coffee Chats after this and won't be back until August, so take this chance while it's here.

🙌 We were pleased to collaborate with Manitoba Start on a practical career development session for their clients.

The session introduced the insurance industry and highlighted career opportunities in property and casualty insurance and the broader financial services sector. Participants also took part in mock interviews, where they practiced common questions, built confidence, and received personalized feedback to help them navigate the Canadian job market.

🤝 A special thank you to our volunteer employer representatives, Guadalupe Ricagno and Dale Morrison, for sharing their time and expertise. We also extend our gratitude to Manitoba Start for their continued partnership in supporting newcomers.

💫 Later that day, we hosted an insurance networking event for both industry professionals and those exploring a career in the field. Attendees connected with professionals across underwriting, claims, and more, wrapping up the day with great conversations and new connections.

🥂 Last week, we hosted two celebrations in one at the National Club in Toronto!

We celebrated the launch of our new Insurance Careers Platform, created to help connect career seekers with current property & casualty insurance opportunities based on their region and career goals. Guests had the chance to explore the platform, create a profile, and learn more about how it can support their next career step. A special thank you to Anne Masson from Wawanesa for joining us and sharing resume tips to help career seekers put their best foot forward.

The evening also marked the graduation of our latest IGNITE Insurance Careers program, as we raised a glass to 23 new graduates who completed the 5-week program this spring. This cohort of newcomers, internationally trained professionals, and career changers spent the past few weeks learning about the P&C insurance industry and exploring where their skills and experience can take them next.

🌟 Congratulations to our IGNITE graduates, and thank you to our industry partners, mentors, guest speakers, special guests, and everyone who joined us for this special evening!

💫 As IGNITE moves into its final presentation days, we’re looking back at Weeks 3 & 4 of the program.

Week 3 brought more great in-class conversations with our amazing guest speakers: Diana Caldi and Umbar Rafi.

Week 4 included a special visit to Zurich Insurance, coordinated with the support of Nikita Sood and Lavanya Oleti, co-chairs of the Asian Canadian Heritage Employee Resource Group at Zurich. Students were welcomed by the Zurich team, heard from Björn Bierfreund, former CFO of Zurich Canada, and connected with Droven Talamor and Meghan FitzGibbon from the Talent Acquisition team.

Each IGNITE student was also paired with a Zurich staff volunteer for a 1:1 conversation, giving them the chance to learn more about career paths, workplace culture, and the Zurich experience. The visit ended with an office tour and a warm welcome from everyone in the office.

The day was not done for our IGNITE students as they were treated to guest speakers from Desjardins Insurance, Sulaiman Khan and Mojdeh Babaee, as part of their in-class program discussion.

🙌 Thank you to all industry partners who have welcomed IGNITE students throughout the program, and a big thank you to Zurich for such a meaningful experience!
