We have our own planting, stonework and woodwork crews, with a unique focus on quality of design, and integration of inside and outside living space. The education and training of the principals of Inside & Out Garden Design clearly reflect the emphasis we put on art, design and craftsmanship. To us, a garden isn’t plant material alone, it’s an environment that can be transformed into an inviting

and delightful living space, and a work of art. trained under master gardeners in Denmark for three years,and operated her own organic herb and market gardening business. She graduated in design from the Ontario College of Art and established Inside & Out Garden Design in 1987. She is skilled in conceptual design and layout of residential gardens, personally oversees selection and installation of all plant materials, and manages and supervises the crafts and skills of those in the company. Clive Russell was a registered Architect from 1976 to 2011, with forty years experience in design of buildings and landscapes. He joined Inside & Out Garden Design in 1996, oversees design from conceptual layout to detailed character, and designs all structures, from arbors and trellises to teahouses. He is a member of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.

Our client wanted to be able to use her overgrown back yard. We built some distinct, very livable rooms. The planting will grow in again, but in a more meaningful way- the new honey locust on the left, now a spindly stalk, will become a lovely shade tree, and the Japanese Maple on the right will be a centrepiece as well as a 'room divider'.

Another 'before' and 'after- our client gave herself a garden on retirement. We made a pergola near the house for shade and privacy from neighbour's upper windows, a water feature and heavily planting to soften and blur the edges, and for acoustic privacy, and a winding path through flowering shrubs, perennials and a birch grove to a tea house, an ideal place for yoga and reading as well.

An alternative to a lawn in Leaside. Structural walls help build up the grade for the existing city tree and relate visually to the stone on the house, as well as providing beds for the accent planting of hydrangeas and white roses. Ivy holds the slope, and the river rock provides texture and a low maintenance, salt resistant road buffer.
