Yesterday we had the privilege of opening up one of our project sites to host a major announcement from Premier Doug Ford. The Government of Ontario is investing $2.2 million towards The Corleck, a new Irish-Canadian arts venue on Toronto’s revitalized urban waterfront.

In addition to functioning as home base for the , this new venue will feature a main stage and performance space, a cafe, gallery and museum, meeting and event space, and a rooftop terrace – we’re building a cultural hub!

B&V is extremely proud and honoured to be a part of every phase of this project. It’s been years in the making and we can’t wait to cut the ribbon next year!

That’s a wrap! We’ve just completed the Ronald McDonald House Charities Family Room at SickKids and we couldn’t be more excited. This is the biggest RMHC Family Room in the world and our team is proud to have built a space that offers comfort, care, and compassion to families who could use some rest just steps away from where their sick child is being treated.

Intended to be a “home away from home”, the RMHC Family Room at SickKids features lounge and eating areas, a kitchen with complimentary snacks and refreshments, a respite area with 23 sleeping pods, laundry facilities, and a kids’ activity area.

We wish the team a happy grand opening next week!

Designed by the ROM team and fabricated by our frequent collaborator MCM, these long, curvy walls are currently part of the Death Exhibit at the ROM (on until April 7th!)

The slats change angles, increasing and decreasing visibility as visitors walk along them. Made from poplar, a natural hardwood, thereby minimizing the use of plastic and making for a more environmentally friendly approach.

Structurally designed to be freestanding, these units are easily removable and reusable for future exhibits.

As the last of the summer vacations wind up, we’re thinking about what the workplace looks like in 2023 and beyond.

This DesignLines article explores that idea by looking at projects by some of our fantastic clients OneMethod, East Room, Hullmark, Mason Studio Inc., who are challenging the idea of 'the workplace.'

Combining art, design, & community into one multi-use space seems to be the way our clients are driving trends in the city. Is this the future of work-life balance?

The future of work is shaping today's workspace design, which embraces open-plan concepts, collaboration and flexibility over confined traditional settings.

Giving a new life to a historic building can take enormous creativity, restoring the character and beauty of an aged building while making it structurally sound and able to support its new tenants.

507 King Street being a 100+ year old building, we knew that the nail laminated wood floors would not be level. And on this project, the north west corner of the floor plates showed significant sagging on each floor. So B&V, along with shoring engineers, mcgyvered a hydraulic jack set-up to lift the age-old timber beams on each floor by almost 5 inches. Structural plates were added to maintain this cosmetic lift, and our clients were happy that their chairs were no longer going to wheel away!

Of course, it would have been easier to replace the floor with something brand new. But, being able to reuse the original was key to the design intent and a more sustainable construction practice. Solving these problems is part of why we love adaptive reuse!
