Our project for a Room for Conversation in Queen’s Park North that later became the basis for the Workshop, a civic space designed to accommodate a wide range of public activities at QPN. Toronto’s Community Engagement Reports indicated strong public support for the proposal, with 45% expressing strong support and 35% expressing general support. We were therefore surprised to learn recently that the program has been removed from the park’s master plan.
We continue to believe that a well-designed, properly built civic room, open to everyone and capable of supporting a broad range of activities, is an important kind of public program for Queen’s Park.
We remain committed to the ongoing democratic process of city-building in Toronto, and hopeful that it will ultimately leave a legacy of thoughtful, meaningful, and enduring public buildings for future generations.Here is what we proposed

This Thursday, July 30th, we host our fifth JUTSU Corner Talk, a conversation between Jimenez Lai, founder of Bureau Spectacular based in LA, and Miles Gertler, co-founder of Common Accounts based in Toronto.

Through his books, drawings, exhibitions, and teaching, Jimenez has developed a body of work that treats storytelling as a way of thinking about architecture, blurring the boundaries between fiction, representation, and the built environment. Miles’s work moves between visual art, design, writing, and research, examining the cultural rituals, technologies, and systems that quietly shape everyday life.

Where these two minds will meet is difficult to predict, but as always, Forno Cultura’s bread will anchor the table.

Form of Accessibility Graduate Design Seminar at the GSD- Looking at accessibility from a formal lens; architecture form at the threshold of human ability. A truly intelligent group of students working on different barriers at Gund Hall each related to one human ability at its threshold. Miles Cornwall and Emma Sheffer single arm switch back ramp to access the mezzanine. Borler Wu, Adela Borjas and Emanuelle Cardenas barrier-free bathroom towards Piper auditorium exploring bathroom rituals, temporalities and publicness; Vicky Cao and Mishelle Abusada using air as a non visual access signal to egress on the fifth floor corridor; Adrian Yu, Howard Timlin and Alex Guo, topological tactile plates vs real time tactile surface indicators as two means of non visual navigation. Patricia Ku, Leah Lock and Kaitlin Chi Ar Tse, model of fourth and fifth trays using moving curtains to mitigate height anxiety, Rodrigo Pineros and Mathew Pena working on signs and color blindness, Miya Kutchins and Cathy Li, ground inscriptions as playgrounds, Ken Chen and George Ma using a deep plate insert in the middle of wide exit stair to create two separate light zones for macular degeneration vs photophobia, Hazel Kim Julie Yeung and Lucia Garza using Gallaudet University concept of DeafSpace and dealing with second floor corridor jog; Olivia Xu and Yi Zhu double handrail, Marianne Bojelan Papas temperature respites and Taay'lo Imani temporal accessibility.

This Monday the 27th, we host our fourth JUTSU Corner Talk, and the first of 2026, a conversation between Angelo Bucci, Professor of Practice at MIT and Principal of SPBR Arquitetos, São Paulo, and Peter Sealy, Assistant Professor and Director of the Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies at the University of Toronto.

The first image shows SPBR’s proposal for MAM-SP Park, where architecture is reduced to a territorial frame. The second reflects Peter Sealy’s fascination with Berlin’s negative corners, where the corner registers the struggle for access to light within shrinking dimensions.

It would be hard to predict where these two minds will meet, but as usual, Forno Cultura’s bread will anchor the table. .peter
