Job Title: Retail & Event Coordinator (Full-Time or Part-Time)
Location: Toronto Plant Market
Compensation: $20/hr – $35/hr based on experience and skill set
Job Type: Seasonal Full-Time or Part-Time (Flexible)

About Us:
The Toronto Plant Market and Native Plant Supply is a unique retail garden center specializing in native plants. We are a destination location that hosts events to engage with the community and raise awareness about native plants and sustainability. Due to growth and changes in staffing, we are seeking a motivated and versatile individual (or two individuals – see below) to help run our retail operations, plan and host events, and handle our social media presence.
This role offers the opportunity to combine two exciting areas of work: retail garden center management and event coordination. Whether you’re interested in one or both areas, we can adjust the role to suit the right fit.

Job Overview:
The position(s) will be responsible for day-to-day retail operations at the Plant Market, including assisting customers, managing inventory, and maintaining plant displays. Additionally, you will help with planning and hosting events, curating content for social media, and assisting with catering and logistics for events. Depending on the candidate’s skills, these responsibilities can be split into two roles, or combined into one full-time position.

Key Responsibilities:

Plant Market Retail
Greeting customers and providing expert advice on native plants and seeds
Using Point of Sale system to process sales and handling cash
Watering plants and maintaining attractive displays
Maintaining a clean and organized retail environment
Assisting with kid-friendly activities and hospitality
General site upkeep and event setup

Event Coordination and Social Media
Curating and planning engaging community events and workshops
Collaborating with the Ecoman and Plant Market team on event planning and strategy
Coordinating with presenters and vendors
Overseeing logistics (set-up, running the event, tear-down)
Welcoming attendees, preparing and serving food and beverages
Washing dishes and cleaning post-event
Managing Toronto Plant Market social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Eventbrite)
Developing social media posts and promotional materials
Responding to Direct Messages and client inquiries via social media and email

Qualifications:
Passion for native plants, sustainability, and community engagement
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Ability to work independently and collaborate with the team in a dynamic, hands-on environment
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience in retail management, event coordination, or hospitality
Basic understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Eventbrite)
Previous experience with point of sale systems and inventory management is a plus
Food handling and event hosting experience is an asset
A valid G-class license and clean driving record is an asset.

Additional Details:
This is a flexible position. We can hire for one role or both, depending on the right candidate’s skills and interests.
The role could be a full-time opportunity if you’re interested in handling both retail and event responsibilities, or a part-time role if you prefer focusing on one area.
You’ll have the chance to grow with the company, with the potential for higher pay and more responsibility based on performance.
If you are excited to work in a unique environment where nature, creativity, and community come together, we’d love to hear from you!

Good things happening...

Just before I left T.O for QB,VI ,I was involved in helping to make happen a Community Pollinator Garden at the corner of Pritchard and Batavia (North Runnymede United Church) (May/June) As a Board member with RHS I applied for the bursary through the Toronto Chapter of Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association . This year, RHS was one of 10 community projects awarded up to $1,500 each in order to support small-scale projects in the neighbourhoods that members live and work in.

Landscape Ontario magazine reached out to organizers of some of the projects about their achievements, spanning from native plant gardens, green schoolyards and sustainability initiatives.

Thanks to Jonas from Ecoman.ca for giving me the hot tip to apply for the bursary!.You too helped make this happen along with all the volunteers who prepared, installed and now maintain the Community Pollinator Garden that beautifies the neighbourhood and more importantly creates habitat for our little friends.
