Presenting 🥁 Our mid-project check in for this super cool home in High Park Toronto.

This is just a portion of the full project, but what an awesome element it is!

Our clients have the most amazing, collection of art and display items throughout their home that they’ve built up over a lifetime of adventures and travel, so when we were meeting with them to build out the initial colour plan, we wanted to lean into the bold but also felt that colour drenching the library in particular would provide the perfect backdrop to emphasize the room as the jewel box it is. Think of it as a treasure chest of unique art, collectibles and thoughtfully arranged items, now with dark walls and cabinetry to add to the intrigue.

We’re so excited with how it’s coming along, not to mention the other areas in the house where we’re installing wallpaper & backsplash, painting kitchen cabinets and the list goes on.

Day 1 = Prep day! (Featuring visits from our clients’ dog Toby 🐶)

Today our team papered all the floors on the main floor, installed zipper walls for dust barriers / zone creation and prepped the walls to remove all nail holes and blemishes 🔨

We’re so excited about this project and can’t wait to showcase our clients’ gorgeous decisions on colours, wallpaper & tile! 🤎

Sometimes you just want to brighten things up a bit ✨

Our clients thought long and hard about painting out some wood elements in their home, ultimately opting for painting over the wooden wainscoting, the doors, door frames and 2 window frames on the 2nd floor and then the stair stringers, risers and spindles (which, naturally, we don’t have after photos that captured the painting on the staircase 🫠🙃)

It can be really tough to make the call to paint out original wood. Our advice, as people who appreciate classic features like original wood trim, is if you’re absolutely certain, to proceed slowly. So opposed to painting out every wood feature, we recommended to keep the foyer hallway frames original, and the front door, and then to preserve the railings and newel posts. It can quickly become a situation where too much wood is painted over too quickly and you go from an overwhelm of wood to an overwhelm of white.

In this case, slow and steady wins the race and our clients were able to evaluate and decide what more they wanted to go with, and where to stop. An item that made things a bit easier to decide to paint things out white was that in a reno prior to our clients owning the home, the wood trim was replaced in places and the wood tones didn’t match 🤷🏼‍♀️

Some people love wood features, other people would like less, or none, at the end of the day, it’s your home, we’re here to offer smart advice aimed to save your pocket book and avoid hasty decisions that you may come to regret later on 🤎

We’re at the half way mark for this Bloor West Village project where we’re painting out all the wood trim and wainscotting (and repainting the entire main floor in general) 🤎
