Nature's candies, plus a surprise guest. 🍓🫐

Raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and tomatoes & cucamelons! Today's harvest straight from the backyard. The berries are the classic sweet treats, but cucamelons are the wildcard: tiny, tangy, and taste like a cross between cucumber and lime. Sweet, sour, and everything in between.

This harvest took a lot of hard work.

From seed, to caring for them as they grow, to cooking meals for the family, to harvesting and sharing with the people we love. Then we film it, edit it, and put it all together.

I’ll be honest, some days we’re tired. Some days I wonder how we do it all.

But it all comes from a place of love. It’s not for fame or fortune. It’s about creating freedom to spend more time as a family and truly do the things we love in our lifetime.

We keep sharing because we want you to feel the sense of well being you get from starting a garden. It’s all worth the hard work.

But sometimes we have to remind ourselves that it’s okay to take a break, relax, and take a breather. 🤍

Your next tomato variety to grow is this Orange Accordion.

It’s an heirloom tomato with ribbed fruits bigger than my hands. Thick, meaty walls, few seeds, and a beautifully sweet flavour.

Upo is perfect for ginisang upo, sautéed with garlic, onions, and shrimp or pork, simmered until tender. Simple, comforting, and a Filipino classic.

Lemon squash has been a big producer this season, this variety did really well in our garden.
With all our zucchini, we've been baking savory muffins, chocolate chip muffins, and zucchini bread, then storing it in the freezer to enjoy later.

But marina di chioggia is our ultimate favourite to grow. It's creamy, sweet, and rich, almost like a cross between pumpkin and squash, perfect for roasting, soups, or pies. If you only grow one squash next season, make it this one.

Do things you love every day, even if only for a few minutes. Some days it's a quick walk through the garden checking what's ready to pick. Other days it's a bike ride with the family. Small moments, but they add up to something big.

We removed almost all our lawn to grow our own food instead. 20 years of gardening, and it still amazes us how far we've come, from a small backyard experiments to harvests big enough to share every week.

So if you've never gardened, or you want to start, or you love to garden but wish you knew how to cook what you grow: start small. one pot, one plant, one meal. That's all it takes to begin.

Growing up in the Philippines, blueberries and strawberries weren't something we had access to. They felt like a faraway luxury, not something you'd ever grow yourself.

This garden, this harvest, this life we built here in Canada, none of it erases where I come from. If anything, moments like this remind me how much of where I started still shapes who I am.

Nature's candy, straight from our backyard, grown with our own hands. 🫐🍓🇵🇭
