At McAsphalt, safety is not a campaign, a checklist, or a moment in time. It is our number one priority and the foundation of how we work every day.

As our Summer Safety Week continues across McAsphalt, it has been inspiring to see our teams come together from our terminals, vessels, labs and offices. Our people are taking the time to have meaningful conversations about safe work, work preparation, and the responsibility we all share to look out for one another.

Safety Week is an important moment of focus, but our commitment to safety extends far beyond one week. It lives in the decisions we make, the questions we ask, the planning we do, and the care we show for our teammates every day. Thank you to our teams across Canada for continuing to lead with safety, commitment, and care.

A strong safety culture depends on awareness—and the confidence to act.

For our final McAsphalt Safety Week tip, we’re highlighting a mindset that protects everyone, on and off the job.

✅ Tip #3: Speak Up for Safety
If something doesn’t feel right, pause and speak up. Asking questions or raising a concern can prevent incidents before they happen, making it a good catch. Prevention is the best safety tool.
At work, this means reporting hazards, following procedures, and looking out for teammates.

In everyday life, this can mean:
• Slowing down when conditions feel unsafe
• Teaching safe habits to family members and children
• Speaking up when you notice a potential hazard at home or in public spaces
• Choosing to stop and reassess instead of rushing through a task

At McAsphalt, safety is a shared responsibility and a mindset we carry with us every day.

For McAsphalt Safety Week, we’re sharing real-world safety tools from our Safety Toolkit that apply both at work and in everyday life.

✅ Tip #2: Line of Fire
“Line of fire” means putting yourself in the path of moving vehicles, equipment, or objects—and this happens more often than we think.
At work, this means staying out of danger zones, making eye contact with equipment operators, and ensuring equipment is parked, shut down, or locked out before approaching.

In everyday life, it looks like:
• Standing clear of traffic when exiting a vehicle
• Never walking behind reversing vehicles
• Keeping a safe distance from moving machinery, garage doors, or heavy loads
• Making sure drivers see you before crossing driveways or parking lots

At McAsphalt, we believe safety awareness doesn’t end when the workday does, it’s a mindset we carry everywhere.

Safety starts with the small habits that protect us every day. For McAsphalt Safety Week, we’re sharing practical safety tips from our Safety Toolkit that extend beyond the worksite and into everyday life.

✅ Tip #1: Three Points of Contact

The Three Points of Contact rule means always having two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand in contact with a surface to maintain balance and stability.

At work, this helps prevent slips and falls when climbing on or off equipment and ladders.

In everyday life, this looks like:

- Keeping a hand on the railing while using stairs

- Maintaining contact with your vehicle when getting in or out

- Using support when walking on icy, wet, or uneven surfaces

- Stabilizing yourself before reaching, lifting, or carrying heavy items

At McAsphalt, we know strong safety habits at work help keep us safer
everywhere.

DID YOU KNOW? Your pavement can be RED!🔴

For York Region’s Bus Rapid Transit lanes, McAsphalt developed a colour custom road. Iron oxide pigment was incorporated directly into the mix design, transforming the entire asphalt concrete into a distinct red.

The mix was created to enhance visibility and help motorists navigate this new transit system, withstand rapid freeze-thaw cycles, and perform reliably throughout its lifecycle.

This wasn’t just about looking different. It is about innovation with performance, constructability, and lifecycle durability in mind.

Crack treatments play a critical role in protecting and extending the life of pavements.

By sealing cracks, these treatments prevent water and debris from entering the pavement structure, helping protect underlying layers and significantly reducing the damaging effects of freeze‑thaw cycles. When applied with a de‑tacking agent, crack sealants can be opened to traffic almost immediately, minimizing disruption while delivering long‑term value. Proper crack sealing can extend pavement life by approximately 3 to 5 years.

MACSEAL® products are hot‑applied, single‑component joint and crack sealants engineered for pavement maintenance and construction. Manufactured using a combination of engineered asphalts, polymers, recycled crumb rubber, UV inhibitors, and adhesion promoters, MACSEAL® is designed to perform in demanding conditions. Smart maintenance starts with the right solution—and MACSEAL® delivers protection where it matters most.
