Introducing Project Phoenix.

We’re at the very beginning of this project, and before construction gets underway, there’s already plenty happening behind the scenes.

In this first walkthrough, Dane takes us through the property’s current condition and some of the challenges that need to be addressed before building can begin.

One of those challenges involves trees that require specialized removal due to existing utility lines. It’s just one example of how much planning, coordination, and technical consideration goes into preparing a property for a custom home.

From working with arborists and navigating permit requirements to coordinating with architects and interior designers, there’s a lot more to building a home than what happens on the construction site.

We’ll be documenting Project Phoenix as it progresses, giving you a closer look at the decisions, challenges, and work that go into bringing a custom home to life.

Project Central has officially started.

This is a full teardown and custom home rebuild, and before anything gets built above ground, there’s a lot happening below it.

In the first episode, Dane walks through the site preparation and shoring process, including how we’re protecting the neighbouring properties during excavation, why hitting shale is a major advantage for the build, and how the foundation will be engineered around the existing site conditions.

We’re also dealing with tree protection requirements, which can have a major impact on what can actually be built on a property.

This is the first of a series we’ll be sharing throughout the build, following Project Central from site preparation all the way through to the finished home.

After a full home demolition and rebuild, this Toronto residence has been transformed into a super modern, chic, and highly functional custom home.

Building in Muskoka means engineering directly into the natural environments before the framing package even arrives.

Between granite bedrock profiling, controlled blasting, strict shoreline setback buffers, and septic footprint constraints, site development dictates the architecture. Anchoring foundations to solid rock and managing natural water runoff aren’t afterthoughts; they are the entire structural baseline.
