If your home still has brick window sills, it’s time to inspect the bricks and those mortar joints!

Brick sills were popular pre-2000s because it was easier for builders to use the bricks they already had on site as opposed to ordering new material to install sills.

However, sills are crucial in diverting water and preventing water damage. Mortar is soft and will crack over time, creating openings for water to seep through and cause damage to your interior walls and floors.

If you notice any signs of hairline cracking or brick spalling/deterioration, it’s time to have your sills replaced by a professional masonry team.

Named after it's resemblance to the skeleton of a herring fish, the herringbone pattern is created by positioning bricks in a zig-zag pattern. This pattern is the strongest of all brick-laying patterns.

The herringbone pattern dates as far back as the Roman Empire, where it commonly appeared on interior floors and roadways. During the Renaissance, builders began using the herringbone design for wood floors, as well.

Today, the herringbone pattern is extremely popular not only for its strength, but also for curb appeal.

Here is a Before and After of a complete porch and walkway interlock relay.

Not only did we change the interlock style, we completely opened the space, adding extra porch space under the front window.

Although the after photo is a little dark, you can see the difference the upgrade makes.
