Two weeks ago, TDC CEO Nik Vischschraper attended NACCA’s 2026 SOAR Indigenous Prosperity Forum in Gatineau on behalf of Tla-o-qui-aht Development Corporation.

The forum was a powerful and inspiring experience, reinforcing the growing momentum behind Indigenous-led economic development and innovation across the country. Through conversations and shared learning, the event highlighted the expanding role of Indigenous products in global trade and the ways that strategic, community-focused investment can help shift long-term economic trajectories.

As we continue moving forward, TDC remains focused on building a strong and sustainable future by creating opportunities that support the next generation.

ƛ̓eekoo to NACCA for hosting such an impactful gathering and for creating space for Indigenous leadership, collaboration, and shared prosperity.

Last Friday, our CEO Nik and Executive Assistant Alec had the opportunity to visit Haa-ak-suuk Creek Hydro and spend the afternoon with the Highway 4 Hydro team.

From the site visit to sharing lunch together, it was an incredible day, and with the beautiful weather, it was such an amazing experience to spend time surrounded by the forests, mountains, and waters of the Tla-o-qui-aht ḥaḥuułi.

ƛ̓eekoo to the H4H team for hosting us, showing us around, and for all of the important work that you do.

The first quarter of 2026 has brought exciting momentum for TFN Seafoods.

Halibut season is officially underway with historic high prices supporting TFN fishers, while the commercial diver graduate is actively harvesting a variety of local species including sea cucumbers and geoducks.

Alongside a successful first quarter on the water, we’re also looking ahead to continued growth in local maritime skills and training, with four-day SVOP courses planned for both spring and fall.

ƛ̓eekoo to everyone involved in another exciting season ahead!

A thoughtful resource for learning more about language, place names, and the lands and waters of ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Tribal Parks.

Tin Wis Resort’s May blog, "Life-Giving Beaches", as told to Erin Linn McMullan by Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks Guardian Gisele Martin. Through nuučaan̓uł place names, stories, and teachings, the blog shares a deeper understanding of the lands and waters throughout ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Tribal Parks, recognized worldwide for their life-giving beaches abundant with biodiversity and stewarded by nuučaan̓uł Peoples since time immemorial.

As Gisele shares, these names are descriptive, relational, and rooted in observing the land from a nuučaan̓uł perspective. They explain that the understanding of place comes from the water, the ocean highway, with names often reflecting each place’s role and significance within the web of life.

ƛ̓eekoo to Gisele Martin and Erin Linn McMullan for helping share this knowledge with care.

We’re proud to share a strong start to 2026 for Highway 4 Hydro.

Canoe Creek Hydro, Winchie Creek Hydro, and Haa-ak-suuk Creek Hydro all achieved their highest production and revenue for January, February, and March in over seven years! It’s a meaningful milestone that reflects consistent operations, careful monitoring, and the strength of this work on the land.

Behind the scenes, it was also a significant quarter administratively, with Highway 4 Hydro taking on financial year-ends and audit preparation for the first time. Both were successfully completed, building valuable knowledge and capacity for the years ahead.

Congratulations to H4H and ƛ̓eekoo to the team for their dedication and care in supporting this important work.

Today on May 5th, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S), also known as Red Dress Day, we take time to honour and remember, and to reflect on a reality that extends far beyond a single day.

We hold space for the lives lost, for the families and communities who continue to carry this grief, and for all those impacted. We recognize that this awareness, and this responsibility, must be carried not only today, but every day.

At Tla-o-qui-aht Development Corporation, we stand with our community in recognition, reflection, and respect.

We honour the strength of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people, holding space to remember, to stand for change and justice, and to support a safer future for all. ❤️
