A few weeks ago, our teams from across the Tla-o-qui-aht Development Corporation came together for a beautiful afternoon of good food, sunshine, and connection.

Hosted by Tla-o-qui-aht Seafoods at the Tin Wis and Tsawaak amphitheatre, the lunch was a wonderful opportunity for team members from across our businesses to step away from their busy workdays, catch up with familiar faces, meet colleagues from other teams, and enjoy some time together.

We couldn't have asked for a better day to gather outside, and the delicious taco bar prepared by Surfside Grill made it even better!

A big thank you to Jeff, James, and the Surfside Grill team for the amazing food, and ƛ̓eekoo ƛ̓eekoo to Roy with Tla-o-qui-aht Seafoods for organizing and hosting such a lovely afternoon.

It's always special when our teams have the chance to come together, strengthen connections, and celebrate the people who make up TDC and our businesses. We're grateful for moments like these.

There’s still time to express your interest in the upcoming Indigenous Entrepreneurship & Business Plan Workshop with ICLD, beginning November 2 at Tin Wis Resort.

This four-week program is free for ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ citizens, with participant supports available for those living away from home.

On September 30, Tla-o-qui-aht Development Corporation recognizes Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We honour Residential School Survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home. We remember the truths that have been shared and recognize the strength of ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ and Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island who continue to carry culture, language, teachings, and its citizens forward.

Today and every day, we remember the strength of those who came before us and the generations who continue to carry ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ forward.

ḥaaʔakʔiš ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ — Tla-o-qui-aht is strong.

Reflecting on ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days | Day 3

As we reflect on last month and all of the special moments shared during ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days, Day 3 was certainly one to remember.

The TDC team would like to extend a warm ƛ̓eekoo ƛ̓eekoo to everyone who joined us for the opening ceremony of Tofino Wildpods. It was so special to gather together and celebrate this new chapter for the property as a Tla-o-qui-aht-owned business operated by Tsawaak RV Resort & Campground.

After the ceremony, the TDC team made their way over to the Tin Wis and Tsawaak amphitheatre for lunch and TFN’s Got Talent, where Nik, Alec, and Parker took on the very difficult job of judging! With so much talent on display, it was hard not to give everyone a 10/10.

A special ƛ̓eekoo to Elder kaamatḥ Levi Martin for the opening prayer, to t̓ap̓atc̓umaʕuk Luke MacDonald for being such an awesome host, and to Tleḥpik Hjalmer Wenstob and č̓awituʔa Timmy Masso for lending your instruments, helping with the AV setup, and creating such a beautiful space for the event.

Congratulations again to all of the TFN’s Got Talent participants and winners, and ƛ̓eekoo ƛ̓eekoo to everyone who helped make the day so memorable.

Looking back, we’re so grateful for the time spent together and all of the memories made throughout ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Calling all ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners!

TDC is excited to share an upcoming Indigenous Entrepreneurship & Business Plan Workshop with the Indigenous Community for Leadership & Development (ICLD), designed to help participants take a business idea and work toward a completed business plan.

Beginning November 2, this four-week program will be held at Tin Wis Resort from 9:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Participants will work through business plan development, identity and entrepreneurship, market research and analysis, marketing and target markets, operations and organization, financials, and project planning.

Best of all, registration is FREE for ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ citizens, and participant supports are available for those living away from home.

Interested? Scan the QR code on the poster to submit your expression of interest. The ICLD team will follow up with a few questions to make sure the program is the right fit for you.

On September 30, ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ citizens and guests are invited to come together for Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Village Green, where Orange Shirts will be available, followed by the Survivors March to Tin Wis at 10:00 a.m.

Throughout the day at Tin Wis Resort and Tsawaak RV Resort & Campground, there will be opportunities to gather, share a meal, listen, learn, and spend time together. The day will include a carving presentation with ƛ̓iḥpik Hjalmer Wenstob, storytelling with kaamatḥ Levi Martin, a ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Makers Market, weaving tutorials, song sharing, a community BBQ, Culture Night, and more.

September 30 is a day to honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of residential schools. It is also a time to gather in strength, culture, and community.

We encourage our TDC team, partners, community members, and those wishing to stand alongside ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ to join us.
