Winter’s been rough on the Geese this year. Believe it or not the white goose used to be as white as my duck 😂
They’re going to be spending the rest of the winter in a nice heated barn with their duck friends and plenty of water 💦 🪿 🦆 (yes they’re very loud)

Winter definitely brings a few extra challenges around here. Shorter days, colder temps, and a bit more work to keep everyone happy and comfortable. We’re definitely counting down the days until Spring!
Hope everyone’s having a good winter so far ❄️

I just want to take a minute to talk about how important it is to be honest when it comes to the health of the birds we sell or give away. Lately I’ve been pouring what feels like months of time, energy, and money into treating sick birds, all because someone sold me one without being upfront about its condition. It’s been long nights of care, stressful days watching for symptoms, and a lot of heartache that could have been avoided with a little honesty. When we aren’t truthful about a bird’s health, it doesn’t just affect that one animal. It puts entire flocks at risk and creates a ripple effect of stress and suffering for the birds and their caretakers. Please, for the sake of the animals and the people who love them, be upfront about any concerns with a bird’s health. Give buyers the choice to take on that responsibility knowingly.

Remember that honesty saves more than just feelings, it can save lives. Bird-keeping comes with enough challenges on its own. Let’s not add unnecessary heartbreak by being careless with the truth.

We got a new breed on the homestead today… the Russian Orloff! 🐓 These guys aren’t just cute, they’re built for winter with their fluffy beards and muffs. A couple fun facts… they’re super cold hardy, extremely calm, and even though they’re called Russian Orloffs, they apparently came from Persia and made their way to Russia in the 1800’s. They’re also one of the rarest chicken breeds in North America!Pretty excited to see how they fit in here. ❤️

My sister in law Shelby has the summer off (teacher life🙄) and hatched some eggs for me. Look at these cuties!!! 😍

We’re always sharing the happy moments of raising chickens.. the fresh eggs, silly personalities, and all the fluffy cuties. But like everything in farming, it also comes with its struggles.

We’ve lost birds to illness, predators(AKA stubborn dachshunds), and things we couldn’t control no matter how hard we tried. It’s heartbreaking, and it never gets easier.

Behind the photos and updates are real moments of worry, constant stress, hard decisions, and sometimes tears. But we keep going because we love these animals, and the good days still outweigh the bad.

Thanks for being here through it all..the sweet moments, and the tough ones too. ❤️

Our unique H’mong chickens! 🖤
This rare breed comes from the H’mong hill tribes of Southeast Asia and is famous for its black skin, black meat, and even black bones.

Fun fact: their black meat is considered a delicacy in some cultures, believed to be packed with flavor and health benefits.
(Mine are strictly pets😂)

Super happy about the wide selection of breeds we’ve been raising and/or hatching and I’m excited to share more of them with you!
