DID YOU KNOW? Unlike male ducks, which tend not to stick around, male loons take turns sitting on their "clutch" of eggs. Once the eggs hatch, both parents tend to the babies. For the first week, a newborn loon rides on its parent's back most of the time. This keeps the chick warm and safeguards it from large fish and other aquatic predators. The lesson? Don't be a 'duck.'
